Green Card Firmware Engineer Jobs
Firmware Engineer roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which permanently ties your residency to the role rather than a temporary visa. Employers in embedded systems, IoT, and semiconductor design regularly sponsor, making this one of the more active categories for employment-based green card filings.

- Scope the technical feasibility of new products by clarifying and analyzing requirements with Software/Hardware Architects and Technical Leads.
- Define, plan, and drive projects and program plans based on executive and senior technical guidance.
Team & leadership:
- Build and lead cross-functional teams — in Compute and Enterprise AI — for multiple products across CEAI Product Line.
- Hire, coach, and grow senior ICs and engineering leaders; set the bar for who joins newly and develop the leadership pipeline.
Program Management & Execution:
- Build, create, and execute a comprehensive, well-managed program plan.
- Develop a program schedule by factoring in all Firmware, Driver, SW Stack components, and Hardware dependencies; negotiate and create a supporting staffing plan.
- Establish formal program management artifacts and metrics, including a plan of record, statements of work, project timelines, budget, scope, performance, and quality KPIs & OKRs.
- Drive engineering efficiency through various means, including AI, and plan for risks with preventative mitigation methods.
Communication & Executive Leadership:
- Serve as the primary program point of contact for all firmware-related matters, both internally and externally (to customers and partners).
- Communicate program status, technical issues, risk management, and recommended mitigation plans clearly and concisely to cross-functional and executive teams.
- Develop high-quality executive communications and establish a strong comfort level with senior leadership to drive timely resolution of all roadblocks.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 15+ years of progressive experience in firmware or embedded software development.
- 5+ years of technical leadership or technical program management experience with a proven track record of measured results.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and successful delivery of sophisticated hardware/software co-development programs.
- Outstanding track record of creative problem solving and innovative debug skills in complex systems.

Document your specialized embedded systems credentials
PERM requires proving your qualifications match the job requirements exactly. Gather academic transcripts, credential evaluations for foreign degrees, and project portfolios that demonstrate RTOS, bare-metal programming, or hardware-software integration experience before applying.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Semiconductor firms, defense contractors, and automotive electronics companies file PERM for Firmware Engineers regularly. Search DOL disclosure data to identify which employers have certified PERM applications for this specific occupation before targeting your outreach.
Find green card sponsoring roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters Firmware Engineer listings by employers with green card sponsorship history, so you're not guessing which companies will support EB-2 or EB-3 filings. Search by role, location, and sponsorship status to prioritize your applications.
Clarify the EB-2 versus EB-3 path with your employer
EB-2 requires a master's degree or equivalent in electrical engineering or computer engineering. If you hold a bachelor's degree with substantial experience, EB-3 is the more common route. Get alignment on which category your employer will file under before the PERM recruitment process starts.
Negotiate PERM filing into your offer letter
Ask specifically for a green card sponsorship commitment in writing, including a timeline for filing PERM after your start date. Many employers sponsor verbally but delay filing. A defined timeline, typically six to twelve months post-hire, protects your long-term residency plan.
Use the OFLC Wage Search to validate your prevailing wage
PERM requires your employer to pay the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation and location. Cross-check your offered salary against the OFLC Wage Search before signing an offer. A wage below Level II for your SOC code can stall or invalidate the PERM filing.
Green Card Firmware Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Firmware Engineer role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Firmware Engineer positions typically qualify for both EB-2 and EB-3 depending on the degree requirement the employer sets in the job description. EB-2 applies when the role requires a master's degree or equivalent in electrical or computer engineering. EB-3 covers roles requiring a bachelor's degree. Your employer's PERM filing defines which category applies, so the job description language matters significantly.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for Firmware Engineer roles?
H-1B visa is a temporary nonimmigrant status capped at 85,000 annual slots and subject to lottery selection. Green card sponsorship through PERM and I-140 leads to permanent residency with no annual cap at the EB-3 level for most countries. The trade-off is timeline: PERM takes six to eighteen months to certify, and priority date backlogs affect nationals from India and China, but the outcome is permanent rather than a renewable temporary status.
What does the PERM process look like specifically for a Firmware Engineer position?
Your employer files a PERM application with DOL attesting that no qualified U.S. worker is available for the role at the prevailing wage. This requires a formal recruitment period including job ads, internal postings, and documented candidate review. USCIS then adjudicates the I-140 petition once PERM is certified. For Firmware Engineer roles, the job duties and degree requirements in the PERM application must exactly match your actual responsibilities and credentials.
How can I find Firmware Engineer jobs where employers will sponsor a green card?
Migrate Mate filters Firmware Engineer listings by employers with confirmed green card sponsorship history, letting you focus applications on companies that have already filed PERM or I-140 for similar roles. This is more reliable than filtering by self-reported sponsorship status on general job boards, which is often inaccurate or outdated.
Can I switch Firmware Engineer jobs after my PERM is filed but before I get my green card?
Changing employers resets the PERM process because the certification is tied to a specific employer and job description. If your I-140 has been approved for 180 days or more and you're in the adjustment of status stage, portability rules under AC21 may allow you to transfer to a same or similar Firmware Engineer role without losing your priority date. Consult an immigration attorney before making any employer change mid-process.
