Application Engineer Green Card Jobs
Application Engineer roles qualify for employment-based green card sponsorship under EB-2 or EB-3, depending on your degree level and the employer's requirements. Your employer files a PERM labor certification with DOL before petitioning USCIS, and your country of birth determines your priority date wait time. Start your sponsorship search with employers who have an active EB filing history.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as an Application Engineer
Match your degree to the petition category
EB-2 requires a master's degree or a bachelor's plus five years of progressive experience in a related engineering field. If your employer files under EB-3, a bachelor's in electrical, mechanical, or computer engineering generally satisfies the minimum requirements USCIS expects for this role.
Document your technical specialization early
PERM labor certification requires your employer to define the job duties precisely. Gather performance reviews, project scopes, and any published technical documentation now. Gaps between your resume and the certified job description can trigger a Request for Evidence during the I-140 stage.
Search employers with active EB filing history
Target companies that have filed PERM applications for Application Engineer or closely related SOC codes in the last three years. Use Migrate Mate to filter green-card-sponsoring employers by role and industry, so you're talking to hiring managers who already know the process.
Ask about the prevailing wage determination upfront
Before accepting an offer, confirm the employer intends to meet the DOL prevailing wage for your specific work location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level for your SOC code and metro area, and verify the offer falls at or above that threshold.
Understand how priority date backlog affects your timeline
If you were born in India or China, EB-3 priority date backlogs can stretch your green card wait by years beyond the PERM and I-140 stages. Confirm your country's current cut-off date with USCIS before comparing offers, since timeline differences between employers can be significant.
Negotiate portability protection into your employment plan
Once your I-485 adjustment of status application has been pending for 180 days and your I-140 is approved, AC21 portability lets you change to a same-or-similar role without restarting your green card. Negotiate job title flexibility with your employer before filing so you're not locked into a single position description.

Find Application Engineer JobsApplication Engineer Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Application Engineer role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Both categories are available, depending on how the employer defines the position. EB-2 applies when the role requires a master's degree or its equivalent in experience. EB-3 covers positions requiring a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field. Your employer chooses the category when filing the PERM labor certification, and that choice shapes both the filing requirements and, for some nationalities, the priority date backlog you'll face.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
H-1B is a temporary nonimmigrant status tied to an employer and subject to an annual lottery cap. Green card sponsorship through PERM and I-140 leads to permanent residency, has no annual cap at the EB-3 level for most countries, and isn't lottery-based. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification alone takes six months to over a year, and priority date backlogs add more wait time for applicants born in India or China.
What does the PERM labor certification process require from my employer?
Your employer must conduct a supervised recruitment campaign to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available for the position. They file the ETA 9089 with DOL, document the recruitment results, and certify the offered wage meets the prevailing wage for your location. You don't file anything at the PERM stage, but your education and experience credentials must match the certified job requirements exactly when USCIS reviews the I-140 petition.
How do I find Application Engineer jobs with green card sponsorship?
Search for employers with a documented history of filing PERM applications for engineering roles, not just companies that say they're open to sponsorship. Migrate Mate filters job listings by employers with active green card filing history, so you can focus your applications on companies that have already run the PERM process for comparable positions rather than starting from scratch with an employer who's never sponsored a foreign worker.
Can I switch employers after my green card process has started?
You can change employers under AC21 portability once your I-485 has been pending for at least 180 days and your I-140 is approved, as long as the new role is in the same or a similar occupational classification. If you change jobs before those thresholds, your green card process generally restarts from the PERM stage with the new employer. Confirm the new role's SOC code aligns with your certified petition before accepting an offer.
