Health Information Technology Green Card Jobs
Health Information Technology roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which requires employers to document that no qualified U.S. worker is available. Hospitals, health systems, and health IT vendors regularly sponsor foreign professionals in this field, making it one of the more active categories for employment-based permanent residency.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship in Health Information Technology
Align your credentials to PERM job requirements
PERM defines the minimum requirements for your sponsored role, and your credentials must match exactly. If your degree is in health informatics, medical records, or a related field from outside the U.S., get it evaluated by a NACES-approved credential evaluation service before your employer files.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
Health IT roles get sponsored most often at large hospital networks, integrated health systems, and health IT vendors with in-house HR. Search DOL PERM disclosure data to verify that a prospective employer has filed labor certifications for roles similar to yours before accepting an offer.
Distinguish EB-2 and EB-3 eligibility for your role
EB-2 requires your role to demand an advanced degree, such as a master's in health informatics or clinical data management. Most entry-level and mid-level health IT analyst positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers, which covers bachelor's-degree-minimum roles and typically moves faster for many nationalities.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Search Migrate Mate to identify health IT employers with verified green card sponsorship history. Filter by role type and location to surface employers actively filing PERM cases, so you spend your time on realistic targets rather than applying broadly.
Confirm the prevailing wage tier before negotiating
Your employer must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your role and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the Level I through Level IV wage for your O*NET occupation code before salary discussions so you know the floor your offer must meet.
Understand concurrent filing if your priority date is current
Once USCIS approves your I-140 petition, you may be able to file Form I-485 concurrently if your country's priority date is current in the Visa Bulletin. For many health IT professionals from non-backlogged countries, this can shorten the path to permanent residency by months.

Find Health Information Technology JobsHealth Information Technology Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Which green card category covers most health information technology roles?
Most health IT positions, including health informatics analysts, EHR specialists, and clinical data coordinators, qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers because they require at least a bachelor's degree. Roles that specifically require a master's degree or its equivalent may qualify under EB-2. Your employer's immigration counsel will assess which category fits the actual job requirements, not just your personal credentials.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for health IT jobs?
H-1B sponsorship is temporary and subject to an annual lottery, while PERM-based EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship leads to permanent residency with no lottery. The PERM process requires your employer to conduct a supervised recruitment effort proving no qualified U.S. worker applied. Timeline is longer, often two to four years or more depending on your nationality, but the outcome is a green card rather than a renewable work visa.
How can I find health IT employers who sponsor green cards?
Use Migrate Mate to search for health information technology roles filtered by employers with documented green card sponsorship history. This surfaces hospital systems, health IT vendors, and government health agencies that have filed PERM labor certifications for similar roles, letting you prioritize applications to employers already familiar with the sponsorship process.
Does my country of birth affect how long the EB-3 green card process takes for health IT?
Yes. Your priority date, set when DOL accepts your employer's PERM application, determines when you can proceed to adjustment of status or consular processing. Nationals of India and China face significantly longer waits due to per-country annual limits. Nationals of most other countries, including the Philippines, can often complete the entire EB-3 process within two to four years.
Can my employer start PERM sponsorship while I am on OPT or H-1B?
Yes. Employers can begin the PERM labor certification process regardless of your current work authorization status. Many health IT professionals initiate PERM while on H-1B, since the two processes run independently. Starting PERM early is strategic because it locks in your priority date, which governs your place in the immigrant visa queue even if your temporary status needs to be extended while you wait.
