Match your credentials to EB-2 requirements
Healthcare Consultant roles often qualify under EB-2 when the position requires a master's degree or higher in health administration, public health, or a clinical field. Document your degree equivalency before applying so employers can file the correct petition category.
Target PERM-experienced healthcare employers
Large hospital systems, managed care organizations, and health IT consulting firms have dedicated HR teams that run PERM filings routinely. Prioritize employers with an in-house immigration function, since PERM requires precise DOL documentation that inexperienced employers frequently mishandle.
Search for sponsoring roles using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Healthcare Consultant openings by employers with active green card sponsorship history. This cuts the research time involved in identifying which consulting firms and health systems have successfully filed PERM applications for similar roles.
Verify prevailing wage before salary negotiations
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for Healthcare Consultant roles in their specific metro area. Check the OFLC Wage Search tool yourself before negotiating an offer, so you know whether the proposed salary clears the Level I through Level IV wage threshold.
Clarify sponsorship timing during the offer stage
PERM filing typically starts after your probationary period ends, which can add six to twelve months before the I-140 petition is even filed. Ask the employer directly whether they begin PERM on day one or after a waiting period, and get that timeline in writing.
Obtain a credential evaluation for foreign degrees
If your healthcare or business degree was earned outside the U.S., USCIS requires a credential evaluation from a recognized evaluation service for the I-140 stage. Request this evaluation early, as some evaluators have backlogs that can delay your employer's petition filing.
Green Card Healthcare Consultant: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Healthcare Consultant role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. If the job description requires a master's degree in health administration, public health, or a related clinical field, the role can qualify under EB-2. If a bachelor's degree plus experience is sufficient, EB-3 is the appropriate category. Your employer's attorney will draft the job description to match the actual requirements and the petition category they intend to file.
How does green card sponsorship for Healthcare Consultants differ from H-1B sponsorship?
H-1B visa is a temporary status with a two-year cap-subject lottery for most applicants, while EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship is a permanent pathway with no lottery. The PERM process takes longer than an H-1B petition, typically 12 to 24 months from labor certification to I-140 approval, but the result is lawful permanent residency rather than a renewable temporary status. For nationals of most countries outside India and China, EB-3 priority dates are current or move quickly.
What does the PERM labor certification process require from a Healthcare Consultant candidate?
PERM requires your employer to conduct a formal recruitment campaign documenting that no qualified U.S. worker applied for the role on terms the employer would accept. Your credentials, degree, and any required licenses must match the minimum requirements the employer advertised. You don't file PERM yourself, but you'll need to provide transcripts, experience letters, and credential evaluations so the employer's attorney can prepare the application accurately.
How do I find Healthcare Consultant jobs with employers who will sponsor a green card?
Many employers are open to sponsorship but don't advertise it in job postings. Migrate Mate lets you search Healthcare Consultant roles filtered by employers with documented green card sponsorship history, so you can focus your applications on organizations that have completed the PERM process for comparable positions before, rather than approaching employers who have never navigated it.
Can I switch employers after my green card process has started?
Once your I-140 is approved and your priority date is current, you can port to a new employer in a same or similar Healthcare Consultant role under AC21 portability rules, as long as your I-485 adjustment of status application has been pending for at least 180 days. If you leave before that point, your PERM and I-140 are tied to the sponsoring employer and the process generally restarts with the new company.
