Green Card IT Consultant Jobs
IT Consultant roles qualify for green card sponsorship under EB-2 for advanced-degree professionals and EB-3 for skilled workers, with employers filing PERM labor certifications through DOL before sponsoring permanent residency. Consulting firms, systems integrators, and enterprise technology departments actively sponsor, making this one of the more accessible IT paths to a U.S. green card.

Position Overview
The Senior IT Consultant at Eminent Technical Solutions (ETS) is a highly skilled technical professional responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the network and systems infrastructure that our clients depend on. This role sits at the core of ETS's technical delivery, taking complex infrastructure challenges from concept through completion and ensuring that client environments are secure, stable, and built to scale.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who thrives on solving hard problems independently. The Senior IT Consultant is expected to own projects from scoping through deployment, make sound architectural decisions without needing constant direction, and bring a proactive mindset to security, performance, and reliability.
While the primary focus is technical delivery, this role also requires strong client communication skills. You will work directly with clients to understand their environments, explain your recommendations clearly, and build the kind of trust that makes ETS a long-term partner rather than a vendor. You will also contribute to the broader team by mentoring junior technicians and producing documentation that supports the entire organization.
The Senior IT Consultant is a key part of how ETS delivers on its commitment to solving complex technology challenges the right way the first time.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain secure and scalable network and systems infrastructure across client environments.
- Configure and troubleshoot routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points to ensure reliable, high-performance connectivity.
- Administer virtual environments and physical servers, including VMware and Hyper-V platforms.
- Implement and monitor cybersecurity protections including firewalls, antivirus, endpoint management, and threat detection systems.
- Manage disaster recovery operations and data backup systems, ensuring clients are prepared for failure scenarios.
- Perform systems monitoring, diagnostics, and proactive maintenance to identify and resolve issues before they affect clients.
- Lead client consultations to assess technical needs, present solutions, and guide environments through changes and upgrades.
- Produce network documentation including system diagrams, deployment plans, and project update reports.
- Mentor junior technicians and contribute to the technical development of the broader team.
- Collaborate with the Help Desk Manager and support team on escalated issues that cross infrastructure boundaries.
Job Requirements
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to pass a criminal background and MVR (driving record) screening
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening
Desired Skills
- Network architecture, design, and infrastructure implementation
- Firewall, router, switch, and access point configuration and troubleshooting
- Windows Server administration and Active Directory management
- Virtualization platform administration (VMware, Hyper-V)
- Cybersecurity fundamentals and endpoint protection
- Disaster recovery planning and backup systems management
- Technical documentation and network diagramming
- Client-facing communication and solution presentation
- Independent problem-solving in high-pressure environments
Experience & Certifications
ETS values candidates with diverse backgrounds and hands-on technical experience. Applicants with some or all of the following experience are encouraged to apply.
- Preferred Experience: 3 to 7 years of hands-on network and systems administration experience; experience in a managed services or technology consulting environment strongly preferred
- Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Networking: Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting routers, switches, firewalls, and access points across LAN/WAN environments
- Microsoft Environments: Strong working knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, and Microsoft 365/Exchange
- Virtualization: Hands-on experience with VMware or Hyper-V platforms
- Security: Practical experience implementing and monitoring cybersecurity protections across client environments
- Documentation: Ability to produce clear network diagrams, deployment plans, and technical support guides
- Certifications: CompTIA Network+, Security+, or A+ valued; Microsoft MCP, MCSA, or MCSE valued; Cisco CCNA or equivalent a plus.

Match your credentials to EB-2 requirements
PERM filings for IT Consultant roles frequently list a master's degree or a bachelor's plus five years of specialized experience as the minimum. Document your credentials precisely before applying, since the job requirements lock in at the PERM stage and can't be upgraded later.
Target consulting firms with PERM filing history
Systems integrators and managed-service providers sponsor far more green cards than most enterprise IT departments. Search OFLC PERM disclosure data by SOC code 15-1251 to identify which firms have certified labor applications in IT Consultant roles recently.
Clarify the third-party placement rule early
Many IT consultants work at client sites rather than the sponsoring employer's office. USCIS scrutinizes this arrangement, so confirm with your sponsoring employer that the job duties and work location are documented consistently across the PERM application, I-140, and any subsequent filings.
Use Migrate Mate to surface active green card sponsors
Filtering job listings by PERM sponsorship status saves weeks of manual research. Migrate Mate aggregates IT Consultant roles from employers with verified green card filing history, so you're targeting positions where sponsorship is already part of the hiring process.
Negotiate PERM filing timing before accepting an offer
Employers can delay initiating PERM for months after you start. Ask directly whether the company has a standard waiting period and what triggers the filing. For Indian and Chinese nationals, earlier filing means an earlier priority date, which directly affects your wait for permanent residency.
Understand prevailing wage before your salary negotiation
DOL assigns a prevailing wage level to your PERM job description using the OFLC Wage Search. Your offered salary must meet or exceed that level. Knowing your wage level before negotiations prevents a mismatch that would require refiling with a revised job description.
Green Card IT Consultant: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an IT Consultant role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
IT Consultant positions can qualify under either category depending on how the employer defines the job requirements. If the role requires a master's degree or a bachelor's plus five years of specialized experience, EB-2 applies. Roles requiring only a bachelor's degree typically fall under EB-3. The employer locks in the classification at the PERM stage, so the job description wording matters significantly.
How is green card sponsorship different from H-1B sponsorship for IT Consultants?
H-1B visa is a temporary work visa with a three-year initial period and an annual lottery for most applicants. Green card sponsorship through PERM and I-140 targets permanent residency with no annual cap at the EB-3 level for many countries. The process takes longer, often two to five years from PERM filing to a green card, but the outcome is lawful permanent residency rather than a status you must renew or risk losing.
Can an IT Consultant on a third-party client site be sponsored for a green card?
Yes, but USCIS reviews third-party placement arrangements carefully. The sponsoring employer must demonstrate it controls the employment relationship, including supervision, performance review, and the right to terminate. Consulting firms that regularly place staff at client sites typically have established PERM language that addresses this, and experienced immigration counsel structures the filing to reflect the actual working arrangement.
Where can I find IT Consultant jobs with employers already willing to sponsor green cards?
Migrate Mate filters IT Consultant listings by employers with verified PERM filing history, which removes the need to ask about sponsorship on each application. The platform surfaces roles where green card sponsorship is part of the employer's standard hiring process, so your search is focused on companies that have already committed to sponsoring foreign workers in this role category.
What happens to my green card sponsorship if I change employers mid-process?
If you change employers after USCIS approves your I-140 but before your green card is issued, you may be able to port your priority date and petition to the new employer under the AC21 portability rules, provided the new role is in the same or a similar occupational classification. Changing employers before I-140 approval typically requires starting the PERM process over from the beginning.
