Green Card Land Surveyor Jobs
Land Surveyor roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, where your employer documents that no qualified U.S. worker is available for the position. Engineering and construction firms, government contractors, and civil infrastructure companies regularly file I-140 petitions for licensed surveyors with geodetic, boundary, or hydrographic specializations.

Verify your license transfers across state lines
Most employers file PERM tied to a specific work location, so confirm your foreign surveying credentials map to that state's licensure requirements. NCEES comity rules affect how quickly you can get licensed, which directly impacts your PERM job duties documentation.
Target firms with active PERM filing history
Engineering and land development firms that have sponsored surveyors before already have established DOL relationships and know the prevailing wage process. Search Migrate Mate to filter Land Surveyor roles by green card sponsorship history and find employers actively filing.
Document your geodetic or specialty experience now
EB-3 PERM job descriptions for surveyors often specify GIS, LiDAR, or boundary survey experience as minimum requirements. Gather project records, software certifications, and employer letters before you apply so your credentials match the posted PERM job requirements exactly.
Check prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
Your employer must pay at least the DOL-determined prevailing wage for the surveyor role and county. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up Level I through Level IV wages for your specific location before accepting an offer, since PERM wage compliance is mandatory.
Understand EB-2 versus EB-3 classification for your role
Surveyor roles requiring only a bachelor's degree typically fall under EB-3. If you hold a master's degree in geomatics or a related field and the position requires it, EB-2 classification may shorten your wait for nationals from most countries outside India and China.
Ask employers about concurrent I-485 filing eligibility
Once your I-140 is approved and a visa number is current for your country, you can file for adjustment of status without leaving the U.S. Confirm with your employer whether they'll support concurrent filing, since USCIS allows this only when the priority date is immediately available.
Green Card Land Surveyor: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Land Surveyor qualify as a specialty occupation for green card sponsorship?
Land Surveyor qualifies for EB-3 green card sponsorship as a skilled professional role requiring at least a bachelor's degree in surveying, geomatics, or a closely related field. Roles involving advanced geodetic analysis or requiring a master's degree may qualify under EB-2. The O*NET profile for Land Surveyors confirms the degree requirement that supports PERM job descriptions.
How is the PERM green card process different from H-1B sponsorship for surveyors?
PERM leads to permanent residency rather than a temporary status, and EB-3 has no annual lottery like the H-1B visa. The trade-off is timeline: PERM labor certification alone takes six months to over a year, followed by I-140 adjudication and a visa queue that varies by your birth country. H-1B approval lets you work quickly but expires; a PERM-based green card is permanent once approved.
Which types of employers typically sponsor Land Surveyors for green cards?
Civil engineering firms, land development companies, federal and state government contractors, and infrastructure consultancies are the most active PERM sponsors for surveyor roles. Employers working on large-scale public works projects, pipeline corridors, or transportation infrastructure often have ongoing hiring needs that make long-term sponsorship practical for them.
How can I find Land Surveyor jobs that include green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search Land Surveyor positions filtered specifically by employment-based green card sponsorship, so you can identify employers who have filed PERM or I-140 petitions for this role. General job boards don't surface sponsorship history, which means you can spend months applying to employers who won't sponsor before finding one that will.
Can my employer start the PERM process while I'm on a work visa in the U.S.?
Yes. Employers can file a PERM labor certification with DOL while you're working in the U.S. on an H-1B or other nonimmigrant status. Starting PERM early is practical because the process takes significant time and your priority date is set when the application is filed, not when it's approved. USCIS processes the I-140 petition after DOL certifies the PERM.
