Green Card Robotics Engineer Jobs
Robotics Engineer roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which requires your employer to document that no qualified U.S. worker is available before filing your I-140 petition. Sponsorship leads to lawful permanent residency, not a temporary status renewal cycle.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Robotics Engineer
Verify your degree maps to robotics
PERM requires your credential to directly support the job duties listed on the labor certification. A degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or computer science typically clears this bar; a general STEM degree may need a credential evaluation to confirm equivalency.
Search for employers with EB-3 filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Robotics Engineer openings by green card sponsorship history, so you target companies that have already run PERM for similar roles rather than pitching sponsorship to employers who have never done it.
Flag automation and defense contractors early
Robotics roles at defense contractors often require security clearances that are unavailable to non-citizens, which quietly disqualifies sponsorship candidates. Confirm clearance requirements before investing time in the application process.
Understand the prevailing wage before negotiating
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your specific job zone and location. Look up your wage level on the OFLC Wage Search before salary talks so you know the floor your offer must meet to support a PERM filing.
Request a PERM-ready job description at offer stage
The duties and minimum requirements written into your job offer become the foundation of the PERM application. Ask your employer to draft these requirements narrowly around your actual role so USCIS cannot argue the position is too broadly defined to require your specific credentials.
Track your priority date once the I-140 is approved
After PERM and I-140 approval, your green card availability depends on your country of birth and the monthly Visa Bulletin. Applicants born in India or China face significantly longer waits at the EB-3 level, so filing I-485 concurrently when permitted preserves your place in line.
Green Card Robotics Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Robotics Engineer role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Robotics Engineer positions typically qualify for both categories. EB-3 covers roles requiring a bachelor's degree, which applies to most entry and mid-level robotics positions. EB-2 applies when the role requires an advanced degree or when your employer can justify that the position demands graduate-level expertise in areas like motion planning, autonomous systems, or machine learning integration.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for a Robotics Engineer?
H-1B visa is a temporary status capped at 65,000 registrations annually, subject to a lottery. PERM-based green card sponsorship has no annual cap at the petition stage and leads to permanent residency. The PERM process is slower overall, often taking one to two years from labor certification through I-140 approval, but it permanently resolves your immigration status rather than requiring repeated renewals.
What does the PERM process look like specifically for robotics roles?
Your employer must conduct a supervised DOL recruitment campaign, advertise the position publicly, and document that no qualified U.S. applicant was rejected. For robotics roles, the job requirements must be standard for the occupation according to O*NET, meaning an employer cannot artificially inflate requirements to exclude U.S. workers. The process typically takes six to eighteen months before an I-140 petition can be filed.
How do I find Robotics Engineer jobs that include green card sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search Robotics Engineer openings filtered by EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history. Targeting employers who have already sponsored PERM applications for similar roles dramatically increases your chances compared to approaching companies with no prior sponsorship experience, since they already have established processes with immigration counsel.
Can my employer sponsor my green card if I'm currently on OPT or H-1B?
Yes. Employers can initiate PERM while you hold OPT, H-1B, or another valid work authorization. PERM does not require you to change status first. If your H-1B expires before the green card process completes, your employer can file for H-1B extensions beyond the standard six-year limit under AC21 once your I-140 has been approved for at least 365 days.
