LVT Green Card Jobs
LVT roles at veterinary hospitals and specialty clinics can qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM labor certification. Employers document the recruitment process, file an I-140 immigrant petition, and sponsor you for permanent residency. Priority dates, credential verification, and state licensing add complexity that makes early planning essential.

Confirm state licensure before PERM filing
Most states require LVTs to pass the VTNE and meet state-specific licensing requirements before practicing. PERM job descriptions often list licensure as a minimum requirement, so unlicensed candidates can stall the filing before it begins.
Target multi-location veterinary groups and specialty hospitals
Large veterinary groups and emergency or specialty hospitals sponsor EB-3 green cards more often than single-practice clinics. Their HR teams have handled PERM filings before and are less likely to abandon sponsorship mid-process due to unfamiliarity with the timeline.
Search employer PERM filing history with Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter LVT job listings by employers with active green card sponsorship history. This lets you target practices that have already run a PERM labor certification for your role type, cutting guesswork out of the employer search.
Ask about EB-3 versus EB-2 fit during offer negotiations
Most LVT roles qualify under EB-3 as a skilled worker position. If your employer wants to file EB-2, the role description must require an advanced degree. Clarify the classification before the PERM job description is drafted so there are no mismatches at filing.
Check prevailing wage early using OFLC Wage Search
DOL requires employers to pay at least the prevailing wage before PERM can be certified. Look up your job title and location in the OFLC Wage Search before accepting an offer to confirm the salary being offered meets or exceeds the wage level the employer will need to certify.

Find LVT JobsLVT Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Can LVT roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most LVT positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers, since the role typically requires a two-year associate degree or AVMA-accredited program completion rather than a full bachelor's or advanced degree. EB-2 sponsorship is possible if the employer can document that the specific role requires an advanced degree, but that framing is uncommon for standard technician positions. Your employer's immigration attorney will determine the correct classification when drafting the PERM job description.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for an LVT?
Green card sponsorship through PERM and I-140 leads to permanent residency, not a temporary status with renewal cycles. Unlike the H-1B, EB-3 has no annual lottery, so your employer's petition isn't subject to random selection. The trade-off is time: PERM labor certification alone takes several months, and priority date backlogs apply to certain nationalities. For many LVTs from countries without severe backlogs, EB-3 offers a more predictable path than H-1B.
What documents should I prepare before asking an employer to sponsor my green card?
Gather your credential evaluation from a NACES-member agency, your VTNE results, your current state veterinary technician license, and any transcripts or diplomas from your veterinary technology program. Employers and their immigration counsel need these to draft an accurate PERM job description that matches your qualifications. Missing or unverified documents are one of the most common reasons PERM cases are delayed before they even reach DOL.
How do I find LVT employers who will actually sponsor a green card?
Migrate Mate lets you search LVT job listings filtered by employers with documented green card sponsorship activity, so you're not spending time applying to practices that have never filed a PERM case. Multi-location veterinary groups and specialty or emergency hospitals are the most consistent sponsors in this field, since they have dedicated HR resources and familiarity with the PERM process compared to small single-doctor clinics.
Does my country of birth affect how long the EB-3 green card process takes as an LVT?
Yes. Priority date backlogs are assigned by country of birth, not citizenship. Applicants born in India, China, Mexico, and the Philippines face longer waits due to high demand relative to the annual per-country limits. Applicants born in most other countries can move through EB-3 much faster, sometimes reaching the final adjustment of status stage within two to three years of an employer filing the I-140. Check the USCIS Visa Bulletin monthly once your I-140 is approved to track your priority date.
