Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as an ICU Registered Nurse
Get your CGFNS certification before applying
Employers filing PERM for foreign-trained nurses need proof your credentials meet U.S. standards. A CGFNS VisaScreen certificate satisfies both DOL and USCIS requirements and removes a common pre-filing bottleneck that delays sponsorship offers.
Verify your state license before PERM starts
PERM job descriptions for ICU nurses list licensure as a minimum requirement. If your state nursing license is pending or requires NCLEX retesting, the DOL recruitment period can begin but your I-140 filing gets delayed until the license is active.
Target hospitals enrolled in Schedule A recruitment
ICU RN roles fall under DOL Schedule A, which skips the standard PERM labor market test entirely. Hospitals that actively use this pathway move from job offer to I-140 filing significantly faster, so filtering by this employer practice matters.
Search green card sponsorship history on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter ICU RN openings by employers with active EB-3 sponsorship history. This surfaces hospitals that have already navigated the PERM and I-140 process for nursing roles, reducing the risk of starting with an employer who is unfamiliar with the process.
Understand concurrent filing and its timing benefit
If your priority date is current, your employer can file the I-140 and your I-485 adjustment of status simultaneously. For ICU nurses from most countries outside India and China, EB-3 dates are often current, making concurrent filing immediately available after PERM certification.
Clarify the employer's PERM attorney arrangement upfront
Before accepting an offer, confirm who pays PERM legal fees and whether the employer uses in-house counsel or an outside firm. DOL rules prohibit employers from passing PERM costs to you, but attorney scope and timeline expectations should be agreed on before your start date.

Find ICU Registered Nurse JobsICU Registered Nurse Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an ICU RN role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most ICU Registered Nurse positions qualify under EB-3, which covers skilled workers requiring at least two years of training or experience. EB-2 applies if the role requires a master's degree or higher as a minimum qualification, which is uncommon for bedside ICU positions. Your employer's job description determines the category, not your personal credentials.
How does EB-3 green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for ICU nurses?
EB-3 leads to permanent residency rather than temporary status, and it has no annual lottery. The PERM process can take 12 to 24 months before the I-140 is filed, which is longer than most H-1B timelines, but the outcome is lawful permanent residency. For nurses from most countries, EB-3 priority dates are current, so adjustment of status can begin promptly after PERM certification.
What is the Schedule A shortcut and does it apply to ICU nurses?
Schedule A is a DOL designation for occupations with a national labor shortage, and Registered Nurses are explicitly listed. Employers sponsoring ICU RNs under Schedule A skip the standard PERM recruitment advertising step entirely, submitting the application directly to USCIS with a pre-certification request. This shortcut typically reduces the overall PERM timeline by several months.
Where can I find ICU RN jobs that offer EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search ICU Registered Nurse openings filtered by employers with employment-based green card sponsorship history. Because many hospitals sponsor nurses through the PERM process regularly, filtering by sponsorship history helps you identify employers already familiar with EB-3 filings and avoid starting the process with an employer who has never navigated PERM for a nursing role.
Can my employer start PERM before I have a U.S. nursing license?
DOL allows PERM recruitment to begin if the job description lists state licensure as a requirement, even if you don't hold it yet. The I-140 petition filed after PERM certification requires evidence that you meet all qualifications, including licensure. Employers typically time PERM to complete around the same period your NCLEX results and state license are finalized.
