Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship in Healthcare
Get your credentials evaluated before applying
Foreign nursing and allied health degrees must be evaluated by a USCIS-recognized body like CGFNS before PERM can proceed. Start the credential evaluation at least six months before targeting employers, since delays here stall the entire green card filing.
Target hospitals with established PERM filing histories
Large hospital systems and multi-site health networks file PERM applications regularly and have in-house immigration counsel. Prioritize employers whose job postings explicitly mention EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, not just H-1B, since PERM sponsorship requires a separate internal commitment.
Use Migrate Mate to filter for green card sponsoring healthcare employers
Search Migrate Mate to find healthcare employers with active EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history. Filtering by role and sponsorship type saves you from applying to facilities that only offer temporary visa support.
Check the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating your offer
Your offered salary must meet the DOL prevailing wage for your specific role and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to verify the wage level tied to your position before signing an offer, since your employer will need to certify this wage in the PERM application.
Negotiate who covers PERM recruitment advertising costs
PERM requires the employer to run a mandatory recruitment campaign proving no qualified U.S. workers are available. Clarify upfront whether the employer absorbs these legal and advertising costs, since some smaller healthcare facilities attempt to pass them to the candidate, which DOL regulations prohibit.
Understand how your O*NET occupation code affects EB category
Your specific healthcare occupation code, found in O*NET, determines whether your role qualifies as EB-2 or EB-3. Roles requiring an advanced clinical degree or specialized judgment may qualify for EB-2, shortening your wait time in countries with backlogs.

Find Healthcare JobsHealthcare Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
What is the typical timeline for a healthcare green card through PERM?
The PERM process alone takes 12 to 18 months from filing to certification under current DOL processing times. After certification, your employer files an I-140 petition with USCIS, which adds several months. If your priority date is current, you can then file for adjustment of status. Total timelines commonly run two to four years depending on your nationality and EB category.
How does EB-3 green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for healthcare workers?
H-1B is temporary and subject to an annual lottery with no guarantee of selection. EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM leads to permanent residency and has no lottery. There is an annual EB-3 visa cap per country, which creates backlogs for applicants from high-demand countries like India and China, but most other nationalities face minimal wait times at the EB-3 level.
Can I search for healthcare employers that specifically sponsor EB-2 or EB-3 green cards?
Yes. Migrate Mate lets you filter healthcare job listings by employers with documented EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history, so you aren't spending time on facilities that only offer H-1B or no sponsorship at all. Targeting employers with existing PERM infrastructure significantly reduces the risk of delays caused by inexperienced immigration counsel.
Do all healthcare roles qualify for the PERM-based green card process?
Most skilled healthcare roles requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a clinical field qualify for EB-3, and those requiring a master's degree or higher may qualify for EB-2. Roles like certified nursing assistants or medical assistants that do not require a full degree may not qualify for EB-3 as professionals, but could still qualify under the skilled worker subcategory depending on specific duties and employer requirements.
What happens to my PERM case if I change healthcare employers mid-process?
If you change employers before the I-140 is approved, the PERM certification is typically lost and the new employer must restart the process from the beginning. However, if your I-140 has been approved for more than 180 days, portability rules under AC21 may allow you to transfer the priority date to a new employer in a same or similar healthcare occupation, protecting your place in the visa queue.
