Psychology Green Card Jobs
Psychology roles at U.S. hospitals, research universities, and community mental health centers regularly qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process. Employers document recruitment efforts, file an I-140 petition, and sponsor you for lawful permanent residency, not just a temporary work authorization.

Target employers with PERM filing history
Hospital systems, VA medical centers, and university counseling programs file PERM applications far more often than private practices. Search DOL disclosure data to confirm an employer has sponsored psychology roles before approaching their HR team.
Understand licensure timing relative to PERM requirements
Many PERM job requirements specify state licensure as a minimum qualification. If you're pre-licensure, clarify with the employer whether the posted role allows supervised hours, or whether you'll need to satisfy licensing requirements before the I-140 is filed.
Use OFLC Wage Search to check prevailing wage tiers
PERM applications must offer the DOL-determined prevailing wage for your specific psychology role and location. Cross-reference the offered salary against OFLC Wage Search before signing an offer letter so there are no surprises during labor certification.
Search green card sponsoring psychology jobs on Migrate Mate
Filter by employer PERM history and psychology job category to find roles where sponsorship is an active practice, not a long shot. Migrate Mate surfaces employers who have filed for psychology professionals so you spend time on realistic targets.
Negotiate the PERM filing timeline into your offer
Employers control when PERM recruitment begins, and delays of one to two years are common after hiring. Ask your prospective employer directly whether they start PERM within the first year of employment, before you accept the role.

Find Psychology JobsPsychology Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a psychology role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most licensed psychologist and doctoral-level psychology positions qualify for EB-2 because they require an advanced degree. Master's-level counselors and psychological associates typically qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers. The specific job requirements your employer lists in the PERM application determine the category, not just your credentials alone.
How does the PERM green card process differ from H-1B sponsorship for psychology professionals?
H-1B sponsorship grants temporary work authorization with a two or three year initial period and is subject to an annual lottery. PERM-based green card sponsorship leads to lawful permanent residency with no annual cap concerns for most countries at the EB-3 level. The tradeoff is time: PERM labor certification and USCIS adjudication typically take one to three years before you become a permanent resident.
Can a psychology employer start PERM before I'm fully licensed?
Yes, but the PERM job description must accurately reflect the minimum requirements for the position at the time of filing. If licensure is listed as a requirement, USCIS will verify you meet it by the priority date. Some employers write PERM requirements around supervision eligibility rather than full licensure, which can allow earlier filing for pre-licensed professionals.
Where can I find psychology jobs with active green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search psychology roles filtered by employers with documented PERM filing history, so you're targeting positions where sponsorship is a real practice rather than an aspiration. Hospital networks, federally qualified health centers, and research universities tend to have structured sponsorship programs for psychology professionals.
Does state licensure affect my green card priority date or processing timeline?
Licensure doesn't directly affect your USCIS priority date, but it can stall the PERM process if the job description requires it and you haven't yet obtained it. Employers who sponsor psychology professionals often time the PERM filing to coincide with your licensure milestone to avoid gaps between the job requirement and your qualifications during adjudication.
