Green Card Caregiver Jobs
Caregiver roles qualify for EB-3 skilled worker sponsorship when employers file PERM labor certification with the DOL, proving no qualified U.S. workers are available. Some positions meet EB-2 requirements if specialized credentials apply. Foreign caregivers pursuing permanent residency can find employers with active green card sponsorship history here.

Document your caregiving credentials before applying
Gather state-issued home health aide certifications, CPR cards, and any foreign nursing credentials before contacting employers. USCIS scrutinizes whether your qualifications match the PERM job description, and gaps in documentation stall petitions.
Target employers with existing PERM filing history
Home health agencies, assisted living facilities, and pediatric care providers that have sponsored workers before already understand the PERM timeline. Use Migrate Mate to filter Caregiver roles by employers with active green card sponsorship records.
Verify your wage offer against DOL prevailing rates
The PERM application requires your offered wage to meet or exceed the DOL prevailing wage for your county. Run the OFLC Wage Search for the Caregiver SOC code before accepting any offer to catch underpaying employers early.
Confirm your employer is enrolled in E-Verify
Many states require home care agencies to use E-Verify for employment eligibility. An employer not enrolled may face PERM complications. Ask during the offer stage, not after you've signed, to avoid delays in the sponsorship timeline.
Align your job duties with the O*NET occupation profile
DOL auditors compare PERM job descriptions against the O*NET profile for the listed occupation code. Make sure your offer letter's listed duties match standard Caregiver tasks so the labor certification doesn't get flagged for a supervised audit.
Request a clear sponsorship timeline from the employer
PERM recruitment advertising, DOL review, and I-140 adjudication together take 18 to 36 months before you can file for adjustment of status. Ask the employer in writing when they plan to start the PERM process so you can plan your current visa status accordingly.
Green Card Caregiver: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Caregiver role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Caregiver positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled worker roles, which requires at least two years of training or experience. EB-2 applies when the role demands an advanced degree or equivalent, such as a licensed clinical social worker or registered nurse in a caregiving capacity. The classification depends on how the employer defines the position in the PERM labor certification.
How does the green card process for Caregivers differ from an H-1B visa?
Unlike the H-1B visa, EB-3 green card sponsorship for Caregivers has no annual lottery. The PERM process is slower, typically 18 to 36 months from labor certification through I-140 approval, but it leads to permanent residency rather than a renewable temporary status. Caregivers from most countries outside India and China face no significant priority date backlog at the EB-3 level.
What documentation do I need before a U.S. employer can file PERM for a Caregiver role?
You'll need proof of any state-required certifications such as home health aide or personal care aide licenses, foreign credential evaluations if your training was completed abroad, and documentation showing at least two years of relevant experience. Your employer's PERM job description must match your actual duties and qualifications to pass DOL review without a supervised recruitment audit.
Where can I find Caregiver jobs where the employer already sponsors green cards?
Migrate Mate lets you search Caregiver openings filtered by employers with verified PERM and green card sponsorship history, so you're not cold-applying to agencies unfamiliar with the process. Targeting employers who have sponsored before dramatically shortens the time between job offer and the start of your PERM filing.
Can I work for a different employer while my Caregiver green card is in process?
Your PERM labor certification and I-140 petition are tied to the sponsoring employer. Changing employers before your I-485 adjustment of status has been pending for 180 days generally requires restarting the process. After 180 days, portability rules under AC21 may allow a move to a same or similar Caregiver role without losing your priority date.
