Green Card Nursing Jobs
Nursing roles in hospitals, long-term care, and specialty clinics regularly qualify for EB-3 green card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process. Employers file on your behalf, certifying that no qualified U.S. worker is available for the role. RNs and other licensed nurses are among the most consistently sponsored healthcare professionals in the U.S.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship in Nursing
Get your CGFNS credentials evaluated early
Most U.S. employers and state nursing boards require a CGFNS certificate or VisaScreen credential before they'll initiate PERM. Starting the credential evaluation process before you have an offer saves months of delay once sponsorship begins.
Target hospitals with active PERM filing history
Large health systems, Veterans Affairs facilities, and federally qualified health centers file PERM petitions regularly for nursing roles. Prioritize employers in underserved areas, where recruiting shortages make labor certification approval more straightforward.
Search green card sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter nursing roles by employers with verified EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history. This cuts through job postings that don't address immigration status and connects you directly with employers who have filed for foreign nurses before.
Clarify your NCLEX and state licensure status upfront
PERM requires the job description to match your qualifications exactly. Confirm which state license the employer needs before the labor certification is filed, since substituting a license from a different state after filing can invalidate the application.
Understand how prevailing wage affects your offer
Before your employer files the PERM, DOL assigns a prevailing wage using the OFLC Wage Search. Your offered salary must meet or exceed that figure. Ask HR which wage level they're filing at, since Level I and Level II have meaningfully different thresholds.
Ask whether EB-3 or EB-2 applies to your role
Most staff RN positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers. Advanced practice roles requiring a master's degree, such as nurse practitioners or clinical nurse specialists, may qualify under EB-2. Clarify this with your employer's immigration counsel before I-140 is filed.
Green Card Nursing: Frequently Asked Questions
Does nursing qualify for EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Yes. Registered nurse positions routinely qualify under EB-3 as skilled worker roles requiring at least two years of training or experience. Employers must complete PERM labor certification through DOL, then file an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. Advanced practice nursing roles requiring a master's degree may qualify under EB-2 instead.
How does EB-3 green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for nurses?
H-1B visa is a temporary nonimmigrant visa with an annual cap and lottery. EB-3 leads directly to permanent residency with no annual cap on petitions and no lottery. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification alone takes six to eighteen months before the I-140 is even filed, making EB-3 a longer but more permanent path.
What credential evaluations do I need before an employer can sponsor me?
Most U.S. employers and state nursing boards require a CGFNS credential evaluation or a VisaScreen certificate confirming your foreign nursing education and licensure meets U.S. standards. Some states require both. Starting this process before you secure a job offer is critical, since PERM cannot proceed until your qualifications are verified.
Where can I find nursing jobs that offer green card sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search nursing roles filtered by employers with confirmed EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history. Many job postings don't mention immigration sponsorship even when the employer regularly files PERM petitions, so filtering by verified sponsorship activity is far more reliable than keyword searching generic job boards.
How long does the green card process take for a sponsored nurse?
Expect a minimum of two to four years from PERM filing to a green card for most countries. DOL's PERM audit and processing backlogs typically add six to eighteen months before the I-140 stage. Nurses from high-demand countries like India and China face additional priority date backlogs in the EB-3 category that can extend the timeline significantly.
