Document your winding certifications before applying
Gather records of any journeyman credentials, trade school diplomas, or apprenticeship completions before contacting employers. PERM requires your employer to define minimum qualifications, and your documented background must match exactly what they advertise.
Target manufacturers with active PERM filing histories
Electric motor repair shops, industrial equipment manufacturers, and utility contractors file PERM most often for Motor Winder roles. Search OFLC disclosure data to identify which employers have certified similar positions in your region before sending applications.
Use Migrate Mate to filter green card sponsoring employers
Search Motor Winder openings on Migrate Mate to surface employers with documented EB-3 sponsorship history. Filtering by sponsorship type upfront saves weeks of back-and-forth with recruiters who aren't set up for PERM.
Verify your wage tier against OFLC Wage Search
PERM locks your employer into paying the DOL prevailing wage for your job zone and location. Cross-check the posted offer against OFLC Wage Search for SOC code 51-2099 before signing anything, so you don't accept a rate that triggers a PERM amendment later.
Ask employers whether they sponsor before the final interview
Many motor repair shops and industrial contractors have never sponsored a foreign worker. Confirm PERM sponsorship capability at the hiring-manager stage, not after an offer, to avoid losing months on a role that can't proceed to I-140 filing.
Understand the EB-3 timeline before accepting an offer
PERM recruitment, DOL review, and I-140 adjudication combined can run 18 months or longer before your priority date becomes current. Nationals from countries without significant EB-3 backlogs can often adjust status without waiting years, but confirm your country's current Visa Bulletin date with USCIS before committing.

Find Motor Winder JobsMotor Winder Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Motor Winder role qualify for EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Yes. Motor Winder is classified as a skilled worker occupation under the EB-3 category, which covers positions requiring at least two years of training or work experience. Your employer sponsors you through PERM labor certification, followed by an I-140 immigrant petition filed with USCIS. There is no annual lottery, and the process leads directly to lawful permanent residency rather than a temporary status.
How does EB-3 green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
H-1B requires a bachelor's degree in a specialty occupation and is subject to an annual lottery cap of 85,000 slots. Motor Winder roles rarely meet the specialty occupation standard, so H-1B is usually not available. EB-3 has no lottery, no annual cap on petitions filed, and is designed for skilled trade workers like motor winders. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM and I-140 processing takes longer than an H-1B approval, but the outcome is permanent residency, not a temporary visa.
What documentation does my employer need to start the PERM process for a Motor Winder position?
Your employer must conduct a good-faith recruitment campaign, including print and online job postings, to show no qualified U.S. workers are available. They then file an ETA Form 9089 with DOL. You'll need to provide copies of your trade certifications, apprenticeship records, or journeyman credentials, since the PERM application must document that you meet every minimum qualification listed in the job posting at the time you were hired.
How can I find employers who already sponsor green cards for Motor Winder jobs?
Searching Migrate Mate filters job listings by employers with active EB-3 sponsorship history, so you're applying to companies already set up for PERM filing rather than educating a hiring manager from scratch. You can also review OFLC disclosure data to identify which employers have certified Motor Winder or related electrical assembly roles in your target metro area.
Can I switch employers after my I-140 is approved but before I get my green card?
Yes, under AC21 portability rules, you can change employers after your I-140 has been approved and your adjustment of status application has been pending for at least 180 days, as long as the new role is in the same or a similar occupational classification. Motor winding, coil winding, and electrical assembly roles are closely related, which typically supports a portability argument, but your new employer should confirm the SOC codes align before you resign.
