Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as an Equipment Service Technician
Document your equipment specializations before applying
PERM requires employers to define the minimum job requirements before recruiting. Compile certifications, service manuals you're trained on, and equipment brands you've serviced so employers can build PERM-compliant job descriptions around your actual technical background.
Target employers with existing PERM filing history
Manufacturers, hospital systems, and commercial HVAC companies that have filed PERM applications before already understand the process. Search DOL PERM disclosure data to identify which industries and employers have sponsored Equipment Service Technician roles previously.
Use Migrate Mate to find green card sponsoring employers
Search Migrate Mate to filter Equipment Service Technician openings by employers with active green card sponsorship history. This surfaces roles where PERM is already a known process, not an unfamiliar request you'd need to introduce from scratch.
Verify the prevailing wage tier before accepting an offer
DOL assigns your role a wage level during PERM that your employer must meet. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the Level I through Level IV prevailing wage for your specific SOC code and work location before negotiating your offer letter.
Clarify EB-3 vs EB-2 eligibility with your hiring manager
Most Equipment Service Technician roles qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers requiring two or more years of training. If your position requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, ask whether the employer is willing to pursue EB-2 instead, which can affect your priority date strategy depending on your country of birth.
File I-485 concurrently if your priority date is current
Once your employer's I-140 is approved and your priority date is current in the Visa Bulletin, you can file for adjustment of status without waiting for a separate approval. Confirm your country's EB-3 cutoff date with USCIS each month, since dates retrogress without notice.

Find Equipment Service Technician JobsEquipment Service Technician Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Equipment Service Technician role qualify for EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Yes. Equipment Service Technician positions typically qualify under the EB-3 skilled worker category, which covers roles requiring at least two years of training or experience. Your employer must complete PERM labor certification with DOL, demonstrating no qualified U.S. worker is available, before filing an I-140 petition with USCIS on your behalf.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
H-1B requires a specialty occupation tied to a bachelor's degree, which many Equipment Service Technician roles don't meet. EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM doesn't have an annual lottery, and for most countries outside India and China there's no significant backlog at the EB-3 level. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM, I-140, and adjustment of status together typically take two to four years, compared to H-1B's faster initial approval.
What O*NET classification does this role use for PERM purposes?
Equipment Service Technicians are generally classified under O*NET codes in the Installation, Maintenance, and Repair occupational group, with the specific SOC code depending on the equipment type, such as medical, HVAC, or industrial machinery. Your employer's immigration attorney will map your exact duties to the correct SOC code, which then determines the prevailing wage DOL assigns during PERM review.
How can I find Equipment Service Technician jobs with green card sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search Equipment Service Technician openings filtered by employers with documented green card sponsorship history. Most general job boards don't distinguish between employers familiar with PERM and those that have never filed. Targeting companies with prior PERM activity in your equipment specialty shortens the internal approval process once you receive an offer.
Can my employer start PERM while I'm working for them on another visa status?
Yes. Employers can begin the PERM process for a current employee on H-1B, TN, or other nonimmigrant status at any time. Starting early matters because PERM approval, I-140 adjudication, and adjustment of status are sequential steps. If you're already employed and your employer is open to sponsorship, ask HR to initiate the prevailing wage determination with DOL as soon as possible to lock in your priority date.
