Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship in New Grad
Translate your degree into PERM eligibility
PERM requires your degree to match the minimum requirements of the posted role. A computer science degree supporting a software engineer position is a clean fit; a business degree supporting a data analyst role needs documented coursework alignment before your employer files.
Target employers with active PERM filing history
New Grad sponsorship depends entirely on employer willingness. Search OFLC disclosure data to identify companies that have filed PERM applications for entry-level roles in your field, not just senior positions, before applying.
Search green card sponsoring jobs on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters jobs by employers with verified PERM and I-140 filing history, so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is already established practice rather than negotiating it from scratch after an offer.
Clarify sponsorship intent before your second interview
Most employers won't raise PERM sponsorship unprompted. Ask directly whether the role is eligible for employment-based green card sponsorship during the offer stage, not after you've signed, so both sides align on the PERM timeline from the start.
Understand the EB-3 priority date before you start
For most countries outside India and China, EB-3 priority dates are current, meaning no backlog wait after USCIS approves your I-140. Knowing your country's cutoff date helps you evaluate whether a multi-year PERM timeline actually affects your permanent residency timeline.
Get your credentials evaluated before PERM advertising begins
If your degree is from outside the U.S., your employer's immigration attorney will need a credential evaluation confirming equivalency to a U.S. bachelor's degree. Arrange this before PERM recruitment starts, since the DOL recruitment window can't be paused mid-process.

Find New Grad JobsNew Grad Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Can a new grad role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Yes. EB-3 is the most common path for new grad roles, covering positions that require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. EB-2 applies when the role genuinely requires an advanced degree or the candidate holds one and the employer can document it as a minimum requirement. PERM labor certification is required for both categories.
How does green card sponsorship through PERM differ from H-1B sponsorship for new grads?
H-1B is a temporary nonimmigrant visa subject to an annual lottery, while PERM sponsorship leads to permanent residency with no lottery and no annual cap at the EB-3 level for most nationalities. PERM takes longer to complete, often 18 to 36 months from filing to I-485 approval, but the outcome is a green card, not a visa that needs renewal or exposes you to lottery risk each cycle.
How do I find new grad jobs where employers are willing to sponsor a green card?
Use Migrate Mate to search roles filtered by employers with documented PERM and I-140 filing history. This removes the guesswork of cold-applying to companies that have never sponsored employment-based green cards, and focuses your search on employers where the process is already an established part of their hiring practice for international candidates.
What does the PERM labor certification process require from a new grad candidate?
Your employer files the PERM application with DOL after completing a mandatory recruitment period to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available for the role. As the candidate, you need to meet the minimum requirements stated in the job posting, typically a bachelor's degree in a directly related field, and provide documentation supporting your qualifications, including a credential evaluation if your degree is from outside the U.S.
Can I start the green card process while on OPT or STEM OPT?
Yes, and starting early matters. Your employer can begin PERM recruitment while you're on OPT. If PERM filing and I-140 approval happen before your OPT period ends, you may be eligible to bridge to H-1B cap-exempt status or use AC21 portability later. USCIS adjudicates the I-140 separately from the PERM, so delays in one stage don't automatically stall the other.
