Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship in Identity And Access Management
Align your credentials to PERM requirements
PERM requires your degree field to match the job's minimum requirements. An IAM role filed under a computer science or information security degree requirement won't support a business administration degree, even with years of hands-on IAM experience.
Target employers with active EB-3 filing history
Search the DOL's PERM disclosure data to identify companies that have sponsored IAM-specific job titles before. Employers who've completed PERM for roles like IAM Engineer or Identity Architect understand the process and are far less likely to stall mid-sponsorship.
Find sponsoring IAM employers through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to search for Identity and Access Management jobs filtered by green card sponsorship history. You'll see which employers have filed PERM for IAM roles, so you can focus your applications on companies already familiar with employment-based sponsorship.
Verify your prevailing wage tier before negotiating
Look up your target IAM job title on the OFLC Wage Search before salary discussions. PERM locks your employer into paying at least the prevailing wage for your location and experience level, and a mismatch between the offered salary and the certified wage will stall your petition.
Confirm the EB classification before your offer letter
IAM roles requiring a bachelor's degree in a related field typically qualify for EB-3. Roles specifying an advanced degree or requiring specialized security credentials like CISSP or CIAM experience may support an EB-2 filing. Get clarity on the intended category before signing your offer.
Track your priority date against the Visa Bulletin
Once your employer files your I-140, your priority date determines when you can file for adjustment of status. IAM professionals born in backlogged countries like India or China face multi-year waits at EB-3, making early I-140 approval especially important for preserving your place in line.
Green Card Identity And Access Management: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Identity and Access Management jobs qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most IAM roles qualify for EB-3 when they require a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Positions that require a master's degree or a combination of advanced education and highly specialized IAM experience, such as enterprise identity architecture or privileged access governance, may qualify for EB-2. Your employer's attorney will determine the appropriate category based on the actual job requirements, not just your personal credentials.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for IAM roles?
H-1B visa is a temporary work visa capped at 85,000 per year, subject to an annual lottery. PERM-based green card sponsorship has no annual cap at the petition level and leads to permanent residency rather than a renewable temporary status. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification alone takes six months to over a year, followed by I-140 adjudication and adjustment of status. For IAM professionals from non-backlogged countries, the full process often runs two to four years.
What does the PERM labor certification process look like for an IAM position?
Your employer must conduct a good-faith recruitment process to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available for your specific IAM role. This includes posting the job through USCIS-approved channels and documenting results. DOL then certifies the application, which authorizes the employer to file your I-140 immigrant petition. The job requirements used in PERM must match the actual duties and minimum qualifications, so overstating credentials at this stage can create problems later in the green card process.
How can I find IAM employers who are willing to sponsor a green card?
The most direct approach is searching for companies with a documented history of filing PERM for IAM-specific job titles. Migrate Mate lets you filter Identity and Access Management jobs by green card sponsorship history, so you can see which employers have already navigated the PERM process for roles like yours rather than approaching companies that have never sponsored before.
Can I change IAM jobs after my employer files my I-140?
Once your I-140 has been approved and your priority date is more than 180 days old, portability rules under AC21 allow you to move to a new employer in a same or similar IAM role without losing your place in line. The new role must be sufficiently similar in duties and SOC code to the original sponsored position. Your priority date stays with you, which matters significantly if you're from a backlogged country waiting years for a visa number to become available.
