Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Psychosocial Rehabilitation Counselor
Verify your credentials meet PERM requirements
PERM labor certifications for counseling roles specify a minimum education requirement the employer must advertise. Confirm your foreign degree equivalency with a credential evaluation agency before applying, so your qualifications match the certified job description exactly.
Target behavioral health systems with PERM history
Community mental health centers, state psychiatric hospitals, and federally qualified health centers regularly sponsor rehabilitation counselors through PERM. Search OFLC disclosure data to identify which organizations have filed labor certifications for this occupation in your target state.
Find green-card-sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Psychosocial Rehabilitation Counselor openings by employers with active EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship history. This narrows your search to organizations already familiar with the PERM process for behavioral health roles.
Clarify licensure requirements before the job offer
Many states require a Licensed Professional Counselor or equivalent credential for this role. PERM job descriptions often tie minimum requirements to licensure, so confirm which state license your prospective employer expects and how your home-country qualifications translate during the prevailing wage determination.
Understand EB-3 vs EB-2 eligibility for your situation
EB-3 covers this role with a bachelor's degree; EB-2 requires a master's or higher, or a national interest waiver filing. If your employer's PERM specifies a master's degree minimum, you qualify for EB-2, which can reduce your priority date wait in some countries.
Check DOL prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
Your employer must pay at least the DOL-certified prevailing wage for the role and location throughout the PERM process. Use OFLC Wage Search to look up the Level I through Level IV wage for your specific county before salary discussions, so you can confirm the offer qualifies for sponsorship.

Find Psychosocial Rehabilitation Counselor JobsPsychosocial Rehabilitation Counselor Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Psychosocial Rehabilitation Counselor role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Both categories are available depending on the employer's stated requirements. EB-3 applies when the position requires a bachelor's degree in counseling, psychology, or a related field. EB-2 applies when the employer requires a master's degree or higher. Your credentials must match the minimum requirements specified in the PERM labor certification the employer files with DOL.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
PERM leads to permanent residency rather than temporary status, and EB-3 sponsorship is not subject to an annual lottery. The process is longer, typically two to four years from PERM filing to green card approval depending on your country of birth, but the outcome is lawful permanent residency. H-1B sponsorship requires an annual lottery cap subject to selection odds and must be renewed every three years.
What documentation should I gather before approaching employers about green card sponsorship?
Prepare a foreign credential evaluation from a recognized agency, certified copies of your degree transcripts, any relevant licensure documents, and professional reference letters that speak to your direct client care experience. Employers need these to draft an accurate PERM job description and to defend minimum requirements during DOL audit, so having them ready speeds the process considerably.
Where can I find Psychosocial Rehabilitation Counselor jobs where the employer already sponsors green cards?
Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for employers with EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history in behavioral health roles, so you're not cold-applying to organizations unfamiliar with the PERM process. Filtering by sponsorship history saves time and focuses your applications on employers who understand the labor certification requirements for counseling positions.
Can my state counseling license affect the PERM application for this role?
Yes. If the employer lists state licensure as a job requirement in the PERM application, USCIS and DOL will expect your credentials to meet that requirement at the time you adjust status. If you hold a license from another country, your employer's attorney should confirm whether equivalency is acceptable under the certified job description before filing to avoid a request for evidence or denial.
