Clinical Counselor Green Card Jobs
Clinical Counselor roles qualify for green card sponsorship under EB-2 for advanced-degree professionals and EB-3 for skilled workers with a bachelor's degree plus licensure. Employers file a PERM labor certification with DOL before sponsoring your I-140 petition, making this a permanent residency pathway rather than a temporary visa.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Clinical Counselor
Verify your licensure before PERM begins
PERM job requirements must match your actual credentials. If your state license is pending or from a different jurisdiction, the DOL-certified minimum requirements could disqualify you mid-process. Confirm reciprocity status before your employer files.
Target employers with dedicated HR compliance teams
Behavioral health networks, hospital systems, and community mental health centers are far more likely to have in-house HR staff experienced in PERM filings than small private practices. Established compliance infrastructure means fewer delays from inexperienced sponsors.
Check prevailing wage early using OFLC Wage Search
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your SOC code and location. Run the OFLC Wage Search yourself before negotiating salary so you know the floor and can flag any misclassification in your job duties.
Use Migrate Mate to find green card sponsoring employers
Filtering job listings by PERM filing history saves weeks of outreach to employers who have never sponsored. Migrate Mate surfaces Clinical Counselor roles at employers with documented green card sponsorship history, so you start with vetted leads.
Understand how EB-2 versus EB-3 affects your timeline
A master's degree in counseling or clinical social work can qualify you for EB-2, which carries shorter wait times for many nationalities. EB-3 applies if your role is classified as a skilled worker position. Confirm your tier with your employer before PERM is filed.
Request concurrent I-485 filing when your priority date allows
Once your I-140 is approved and your priority date is current, you can file for adjustment of status without waiting for a separate visa bulletin cycle. Ask your employer's attorney whether concurrent filing is available to compress your overall green card timeline.

Find Clinical Counselor JobsClinical Counselor Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Clinical Counselor jobs qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Both categories apply depending on your credentials. EB-2 covers candidates with a master's degree in counseling, clinical psychology, or social work, which is standard for licensed professional counselors and licensed clinical social workers. EB-3 covers positions requiring a bachelor's degree plus licensure. Your employer's PERM filing determines which category is used, so the job description and your actual credentials must align before the DOL application is submitted.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for counselors?
H-1B is temporary, capped at 85,000 per year, and subject to a lottery. PERM-based green card sponsorship has no annual cap at the EB-3 level for most nationalities and leads to permanent residency rather than a renewable temporary status. The PERM process typically takes longer upfront since DOL must certify that no qualified U.S. worker is available, but the outcome is a path to a green card rather than a visa that expires.
What does an employer need to do to sponsor a Clinical Counselor for a green card?
The employer files a PERM labor certification with DOL, conducts a mandatory recruitment campaign to document that no qualified U.S. worker is available, and then submits an I-140 immigrant petition to USCIS. The job offer must be for a permanent, full-time position, and the employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your role and location throughout the process and upon your start date.
How do I find Clinical Counselor employers who will sponsor a green card?
Most employers who have sponsored before will do so again because they have the legal infrastructure in place. Migrate Mate filters Clinical Counselor job listings by PERM filing history, so you can focus your applications on employers who have already navigated the DOL process rather than cold-pitching companies with no sponsorship experience.
Can my state licensure requirement affect my PERM application?
Yes. If the PERM job description lists state licensure as a requirement, your employer must be able to document that you already hold it or can obtain it before you begin work. DOL audits often scrutinize licensing requirements in healthcare and counseling roles. If your license is from another state or still pending, confirm transferability and timeline with your employer before the PERM recruitment period starts.
