Green Card Resident Engineer Jobs
Resident Engineer roles qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship when employers complete PERM labor certification, documenting that no qualified U.S. workers are available. Infrastructure, construction, and transportation firms regularly sponsor foreign engineers for permanent residency, making this a viable pathway if you hold a relevant engineering degree and have a confirmed offer.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Resident Engineer
Align your credentials to PERM job requirements
PERM labor certification locks in a specific job description. Make sure your engineering degree and licensed PE credentials, if applicable, match exactly what the employer plans to advertise, since DOL audits flag mismatches between the sponsored role and your documented qualifications.
Target infrastructure employers with prior PERM filings
Transportation agencies, construction management firms, and civil engineering consultancies file PERM applications regularly for Resident Engineers. Search OFLC disclosure data to identify which employers have certified resident or project engineer roles before, then prioritize those in your applications.
Understand EB-2 versus EB-3 classification before accepting an offer
If your role requires only a bachelor's degree, most employers will sponsor under EB-3. Roles requiring a master's or equivalent specialized experience may qualify for EB-2, which can affect your priority date and wait time depending on your country of birth.
Use Migrate Mate to filter sponsoring employers by role
Rather than scanning job postings manually, use Migrate Mate to search directly for Resident Engineer positions at employers with active green card sponsorship history, so you're targeting companies already familiar with the PERM and I-140 process.
Request the prevailing wage determination early in negotiations
Your employer must obtain a prevailing wage determination from OFLC before advertising the PERM position. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the applicable wage level for Resident Engineer roles in your target metro, so you can negotiate an offer that meets or exceeds that threshold from day one.
Confirm your employer's I-140 filing timeline before accepting
PERM certification alone does not secure your green card. Ask prospective employers directly how quickly they proceed from PERM approval to I-140 filing, since delays at that stage can push your priority date back and affect how long you wait for a visa number to become available.
Green Card Resident Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Do Resident Engineer roles typically qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Resident Engineer positions are sponsored under EB-3, since the role commonly requires a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering. EB-2 applies when the position genuinely requires an advanced degree or the candidate holds equivalent specialized credentials that the employer can document in the PERM job description. Your country of birth affects wait times under both categories.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for a Resident Engineer?
Green card sponsorship through PERM and I-140 is permanent rather than temporary and has no annual lottery. H-1B visa sponsorship is capped at 65,000 visas per year and subject to a random selection process. For Resident Engineers, EB-3 sponsorship means your employer is committing to permanent employment, and once your I-140 is approved, your priority date is locked regardless of future job changes under AC21 portability rules.
What does the PERM labor certification process involve for a Resident Engineer position?
Your employer files a PERM application with DOL certifying that no qualified U.S. workers applied for the Resident Engineer role after a compliant recruitment campaign. DOL sets the minimum wage the employer must pay using a prevailing wage determination. Audit rates are significant, so employers typically work with immigration counsel to document recruitment steps, job requirements, and rejection reasons for U.S. applicants.
How can I find Resident Engineer jobs that include green card sponsorship?
Standard job postings rarely specify whether an employer will sponsor a green card versus only an H-1B or no visa at all. Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for Resident Engineer roles at employers with documented green card sponsorship history, filtering out positions where PERM sponsorship is unlikely. This saves significant time compared to applying broadly and asking during interviews.
Can I change employers after my green card process has started as a Resident Engineer?
Once your I-140 is approved and your priority date is current or within 180 days, AC21 portability lets you move to a new employer in a same or similar occupational classification without restarting the process. For Resident Engineers, that generally means another engineering or construction management role. Your new employer does not need to file a new PERM application if portability applies.
