Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Senior Financial Reporting Accountant
Document your CPA and SEC reporting credentials early
PERM job descriptions for senior financial reporting roles often list CPA licensure or SEC reporting experience as minimum requirements. Gather your credential certificates, transcripts, and experience letters before outreach so your qualifications match the posted role exactly.
Target public companies with active PERM filing histories
Public companies subject to SEC reporting requirements hire senior financial reporting accountants regularly and have established immigration programs. Prioritize employers with in-house accounting teams large enough to have sponsored foreign workers through PERM before, not only during growth phases.
Search for green card sponsoring roles on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Senior Financial Reporting Accountant openings by employers with verified green card sponsorship history, so you spend your time on roles where PERM is already part of the hiring process rather than negotiating it from scratch.
Understand how EB-2 versus EB-3 affects your case
EB-2 covers advanced-degree professionals and can apply if your role requires a master's degree or equivalent. EB-3 covers professionals with a bachelor's degree. Your employer's attorney will determine the right category, which affects your priority date and wait time depending on your country of birth.
Negotiate the PERM timeline before accepting an offer
PERM labor certification can take 12 to 18 months or longer before USCIS even receives the I-140 petition. Ask your prospective employer directly whether they have outside immigration counsel retained and whether they will begin PERM within the first year of your employment.
Use the OFLC Wage Search to benchmark your offer against prevailing wage levels
PERM requires your offered salary to meet or exceed the DOL prevailing wage for your specific job title and work location. Run the OFLC Wage Search for your metro area before interviews so you can identify whether an offer is structured to survive the prevailing wage determination.

Find Senior Financial Reporting Accountant JobsSenior Financial Reporting Accountant Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Financial Reporting Accountant role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Both categories can apply. EB-3 covers the role when a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field is the stated minimum requirement. EB-2 applies when the position genuinely requires an advanced degree or when the candidate has a master's or equivalent. Your employer's immigration attorney files under whichever category the actual job duties and minimum requirements support.
How does the PERM green card process differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B is a temporary work visa capped at 85,000 per year, subject to a lottery, and tied to employment with one specific employer. PERM-based green card sponsorship has no annual cap at the EB-3 level for most countries, leads to permanent residency rather than a renewable visa, and is not affected by the H-1B lottery. The tradeoff is that PERM typically takes 18 to 36 months from start to green card approval, significantly longer than initial H-1B processing.
What makes a Senior Financial Reporting Accountant role strong for PERM labor certification?
Roles that require CPA licensure, specific technical skills like ASC 842 lease accounting or SEC reporting, or experience with consolidations under GAAP are easier to defend in PERM because those requirements genuinely narrow the U.S. worker pool. Generic accounting roles without specialized minimum requirements face heavier recruitment scrutiny during the DOL audit process.
How do I find Senior Financial Reporting Accountant jobs where employers are already open to green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search for Senior Financial Reporting Accountant roles filtered by employers with documented green card sponsorship history, which removes the guesswork of cold-pitching sponsorship during an interview. Focusing on employers who have filed PERM applications before significantly improves your odds of a sponsorship conversation going anywhere.
Can I switch employers while my PERM or I-140 is pending?
Changing employers restarts the PERM process from the beginning because the labor certification is tied to the sponsoring employer and the specific job. If your I-140 has been approved for 180 days or more and you are in adjustment of status, portability rules under AC21 may let you transfer the approved I-140 to a new employer in a same or similar occupational classification, including comparable senior accounting roles.
