Green Card Finance And Accounting Jobs
Finance and accounting roles in corporate tax, FP&A, audit, and treasury regularly qualify for EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM labor certification. Your CPA credential, advanced degree, or specialized industry experience shapes which category applies and how quickly your priority date moves.

Match your credentials to the right EB category
EB-2 requires a master's degree or its equivalent in accounting, finance, or a related field. A CPA plus a bachelor's degree can qualify as the equivalent if your employer documents it correctly in the PERM job description.
Verify prevailing wage before accepting an offer
Use the OFLC Wage Search to check the DOL prevailing wage for your specific SOC code and metro area. Your offered salary must meet or exceed this figure or the PERM application will be denied before it reaches USCIS.
Target employers with dedicated immigration infrastructure
Large accounting firms, bank holding companies, and Fortune 500 finance departments run PERM cases routinely. Smaller firms may be willing but lack the internal process, which adds months to your timeline through avoidable delays.
Search green card sponsorship roles through Migrate Mate
Filter by finance and accounting roles where employers have active EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship history. Migrate Mate surfaces this data so you're not spending interviews learning whether a company has ever filed PERM at all.
Understand how job duties affect the PERM job description
DOL requires the PERM description to match your actual role, not an inflated one. If your daily work is general bookkeeping but the description claims senior financial modeling, USCIS can deny the I-140 for misrepresentation.
Plan around the PERM recruitment window before filing
DOL mandates a recruitment period where your employer posts the role and documents that no qualified U.S. worker applied. This window typically takes 30 to 60 days before the PERM application can be submitted, so factor it into your start-date negotiations.
Green Card Finance And Accounting: Frequently Asked Questions
Do finance and accounting roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Both categories are available depending on the role and your credentials. EB-2 applies when the position requires a master's degree or when you hold a bachelor's degree plus substantial progressive experience that your employer can document as equivalent. EB-3 covers roles requiring at least a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field. Most senior analyst, controller, and FP&A roles qualify under EB-2, while staff accountant and auditor positions typically fall under EB-3.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for accounting and finance professionals?
H-1B visa is a temporary status tied to a single employer, subject to an annual lottery, and capped at six years unless a green card case is filed. PERM-based sponsorship targets permanent residency with no lottery and no cap at the EB-3 level for most countries. The tradeoff is time: PERM recruitment, I-140 adjudication, and priority date movement can span several years, while H-1B approval can arrive in months. Many finance professionals pursue both simultaneously.
What does the PERM process require from a finance or accounting employer?
The employer must conduct a DOL-mandated recruitment campaign documenting that no minimally qualified U.S. worker was available for the position. This includes job postings, internal notices, and documentation of any applicants who were considered and rejected. The job description submitted to DOL must reflect the actual duties and minimum requirements of the role, which means the position cannot be written specifically around your resume. Your employer's immigration counsel typically manages this process.
How do I find finance and accounting employers who sponsor green cards?
Migrate Mate lets you filter finance and accounting roles specifically by employers with documented EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship history, so you can focus your applications on companies that have already run PERM cases. This is more targeted than applying broadly and asking about sponsorship late in the interview process, which often leads to a dead end with employers who have no established immigration process.
Can a CPA license or CIMA qualification strengthen an EB-2 petition?
A CPA or equivalent professional credential does not automatically qualify a position for EB-2, but it can support an employer's argument that the role requires specialized expertise beyond a bachelor's degree. If your employer structures the job description to require a CPA plus progressive experience in a specialized area such as international tax or derivatives accounting, USCIS is more likely to accept the position as EB-2 eligible. The credential strengthens the petition when paired with a well-drafted job description, not as a standalone qualifier.
