Staff Designer Green Card Jobs
Staff Designer roles at U.S. companies can support EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM labor certification, which requires your employer to document that no equally qualified U.S. worker is available. Design portfolios, degree credentials, and prevailing wage compliance all factor into a successful sponsorship case.

INTRODUCTION
Founded in 2015, Shield AI is a venture-backed deep-tech company with the mission of protecting service members and civilians with intelligent systems. Its products include the V-BAT and X-BAT aircraft, Hivemind Enterprise, and the Hivemind Vision product lines. With offices and facilities across the U.S., Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific, Shield AI’s technology actively supports operations worldwide.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Staff/Sr. Staff Product Designer role within Shield AI’s Hivemind organization is responsible for solving complex User Experience and Product Design problems associated with the end-to-end user experience of developing, deploying, testing and evaluating autonomy solutions. Significant portions of the product are best described as developer facing software product (i.e. SDKs, CLIs) and require contribution from designers that have relevant experience. Other portions of the product leverage web technologies and UIs to support configuration management, scenario design, mission planning, mission rehearsal, debrief, and test and evaluation process. The supported workflows with these products range from the highly visual/experiential experience of the operator using a ground-control-station (GCS) client to mission plan and command-and-control, to autonomy engineers working within the Integrated Development Environment, to Test Engineers using the web portal and extensible CLI tool. Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Staff Designer
Align your portfolio with PERM requirements
PERM requires your employer to define a specific minimum qualification for the role. Make sure your portfolio and degree directly match that stated requirement, because gaps between your credentials and the job description can trigger audit scrutiny.
Verify your degree field supports EB-2
EB-2 eligibility turns on whether your degree is in a field directly related to design. A fine arts or graphic design degree maps cleanly, but a general business degree may require supplemental evidence of specialized design expertise to qualify.
Use O*NET to frame your specialty occupation case
Look up the Staff Designer occupation profile on O*NET to find the official degree requirements and skill descriptors DOL recognizes. Employers use this data when writing the PERM job description, and matching your credentials to it strengthens the filing.
Target employers with PERM filing history
Search for Staff Designer roles on Migrate Mate, which filters for employers with active green card sponsorship history. Focusing your search on verified PERM sponsors avoids wasting time on companies that have never navigated the filing process.
Confirm prevailing wage before accepting an offer
Run the offered salary against the OFLC Wage Search before signing anything. DOL sets prevailing wage levels by job title, region, and experience tier, and your employer must pay at or above that level throughout the PERM and I-140 process.
Ask about concurrent I-140 and I-485 filing eligibility
If your priority date is current when PERM certifies, your employer can file the I-140 and I-485 together, which locks in your green card application date immediately. Confirming this upfront with your employer's immigration counsel can cut months off your timeline.

Find Staff Designer JobsStaff Designer Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Staff Designer role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Staff Designer roles typically qualify for EB-3 as skilled worker positions, and can support EB-2 when the employer requires an advanced degree or equivalent specialized credentials. The deciding factor is how the employer writes the minimum job requirements in the PERM labor certification. If the role requires a master's degree or a bachelor's degree plus substantial specialized experience, EB-2 becomes viable.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for a Staff Designer?
H-1B is a temporary nonimmigrant status capped at 85,000 new approvals annually and subject to a lottery. PERM-based green card sponsorship has no annual cap at the EB-3 level for most nationalities, leads to permanent residency, and is not lottery-dependent. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM labor certification, I-140 approval, and adjustment of status can take two or more years combined, compared to an H-1B approval in a few months.
How can I find Staff Designer jobs where the employer will sponsor a green card?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter Staff Designer roles by employers who have a documented history of PERM sponsorship, which removes the uncertainty of cold-applying to companies that have never filed for a foreign worker. Most general job boards don't surface sponsorship history at all, so you end up spending significant time on outreach that leads nowhere.
What does the PERM recruitment process mean for my Staff Designer job search?
Before filing PERM, your employer must run a DOL-mandated recruitment campaign to demonstrate no qualified U.S. worker applied for the role. This process typically takes 60 to 90 days. For you as the candidate, it means your start date and green card timeline depend on that recruitment completing without a successful U.S. applicant. Understanding this cycle helps you set realistic expectations when negotiating your offer.
Can a Staff Designer self-petition for a green card without employer sponsorship?
Self-petition is possible under EB-1A for individuals with demonstrated extraordinary recognition in the field, or under EB-2 National Interest Waiver for those whose work benefits the U.S. in a significant way. Both paths are harder to establish for Staff Designers than employer-sponsored PERM, because they require evidence well beyond normal professional accomplishment. Most Staff Designers pursue employer-sponsored EB-2 or EB-3 as the more accessible route. Consult an immigration attorney to assess whether your specific credentials support a self-petition.
