Teaching Assistant Green Card Jobs
Teaching Assistant roles at U.S. universities and K-12 institutions can qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM labor certification. Employers must document recruitment efforts before filing, and candidates with advanced education credentials in relevant fields strengthen both the sponsorship case and the priority-date timeline.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Teaching Assistant
Match your degree to the posted requirements
PERM certification requires your foreign degree to meet the role's stated minimum qualifications. A teaching assistant posting requiring a bachelor's in education won't support your case if your degree is in an unrelated field, regardless of your classroom experience.
Target institutions with PERM filing history
Universities and large K-12 districts file PERM applications far more often than private tutoring centers or small charter schools. Search DOL disclosure data to confirm whether a prospective employer has sponsored foreign workers in education roles before.
Use Migrate Mate to filter sponsoring employers
Not every teaching assistant opening will lead to green card sponsorship. Migrate Mate lets you filter specifically for roles where employers have active EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship history, so you're applying where the pathway already exists.
Clarify EB-2 versus EB-3 eligibility early
If you hold a master's degree in education or a related field, ask whether the employer will support an EB-2 petition. EB-2 can offer faster priority dates for certain countries and doesn't require the same recruitment-period documentation as EB-3 skilled-worker filings.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer
Employers sponsoring foreign workers must be enrolled in E-Verify. If a school district hasn't enrolled, the PERM process can stall at the I-9 stage. Verify enrollment status directly with HR before negotiating terms or signing anything.
Request the PERM filing timeline in writing
PERM labor certification currently averages many months at OFLC before USCIS even receives the I-140 petition. Ask your prospective employer for a written sponsorship commitment and expected filing dates so your authorization doesn't lapse between offer and approval.

Find Teaching Assistant JobsTeaching Assistant Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Do teaching assistant roles qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most teaching assistant positions qualify under EB-3 as skilled workers or professionals, depending on the degree requirement in the job description. If the role requires a master's degree or higher, EB-2 sponsorship may be available. The key factor is what the employer documents in the PERM labor certification as the minimum education requirement for the position.
How does PERM green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for teaching assistants?
H-1B is a temporary nonimmigrant status with a two- to three-year initial period and an annual lottery cap for most employers. PERM leads to permanent residency with no annual cap at the EB-3 level for most nationalities. The PERM process is also employer-driven from start to finish, meaning your employer handles DOL recruitment documentation and USCIS petitions on your behalf, which differs significantly from H-1B procedurally.
Which types of employers sponsor teaching assistants for green cards?
Large public university systems and well-resourced K-12 school districts are the most consistent sponsors. Community colleges and private research universities also sponsor regularly. Smaller private schools, tutoring companies, and after-school programs rarely have the HR infrastructure to manage PERM filings. Searching DOL PERM disclosure data by employer name and occupation code helps identify institutions with an active sponsorship track record in education roles.
How do I find teaching assistant jobs that offer green card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is designed specifically for this search. You can filter by visa sponsorship type, including EB-2 and EB-3, and narrow results to education roles where employers have documented sponsorship history. This saves time compared to applying broadly and discovering after interviews that an employer won't sponsor. Starting your search with sponsorship as a filter, not an afterthought, is what shortens the path to a filed PERM application.
What documents should I prepare before a teaching assistant employer begins PERM?
Your employer will need certified copies of your foreign degree, official transcripts, and any credential evaluation completed by a NACES-approved organization if your degree is from outside the U.S. You should also document any teaching licenses or state certifications required by the jurisdiction. Having these ready before the PERM recruitment period begins prevents delays once DOL approves the supervised recruitment phase and the employer is ready to file.
