Match your credentials to PERM requirements
PERM requires your education and experience to exactly match the job description. A Territory Sales Representative role tied to an EB-3 typically needs a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field documented in your employer's job posting.
Use OFLC Wage Search before negotiating salary
DOL requires your employer to pay the prevailing wage for your territory and job level before PERM can proceed. Look up the wage level yourself using OFLC Wage Search so you know whether an offer clears the threshold before signing.
Target employers with existing PERM filing history
Not every sales organization sponsors green cards. Focus your job search on companies that have filed PERM applications for similar roles in the past. Migrate Mate lets you filter Territory Sales Representative positions by employers with documented green card sponsorship history.
Understand how a defined sales territory affects your case
PERM labor market tests are conducted for the specific metropolitan area where you'll work. If your territory spans multiple states, your employer needs to define a primary work location, since DOL ties the prevailing wage determination and recruitment to that geographic area.
Confirm the employer will start PERM before your I-140
Some companies verbally agree to sponsor but delay filing PERM for months. Ask directly whether they have an immigration counsel on retainer and whether they'll begin the PERM recruitment process within a defined timeframe after your start date.
Review your O*NET occupation profile before interviews
Employers must advertise the role using DOL-compliant language. Reviewing the O*NET profile for Territory Sales Representative before interviews helps you frame your experience using the duty descriptions that align with what PERM job postings are legally required to include.
Green Card Territory Sales Representative: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Territory Sales Representative role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Most Territory Sales Representative positions qualify under EB-3, which covers professionals with a U.S. bachelor's degree or its foreign equivalent. EB-2 is possible if the role genuinely requires an advanced degree or if you qualify under the National Interest Waiver, but that route is uncommon for standard outside sales positions.
How does the green card PERM process differ from H-1B sponsorship for a sales role?
H-1B visa is a temporary work visa requiring annual cap registration and a lottery for most applicants. PERM-based green card sponsorship is a permanent path with no annual cap concerns at the EB-3 level for most countries. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM recruitment and I-140 adjudication typically add 12 to 24 months before you reach adjustment of status, whereas H-1B status can begin sooner.
Can a company sponsor a Territory Sales Representative for a green card if the role is remote or multi-state?
PERM ties the prevailing wage determination and DOL recruitment requirements to a specific work location. If your role is fully remote with no fixed office, your employer must designate one primary location for the PERM filing. Multi-state territories complicate this because DOL evaluates the job duties and wage against the metropolitan area where you'll primarily perform your work.
How do I find Territory Sales Representative jobs where the employer is open to green card sponsorship?
Most job postings don't explicitly advertise PERM sponsorship, which makes identifying willing employers difficult through standard searches. Migrate Mate is built specifically to surface jobs with documented green card sponsorship history, so you can target Territory Sales Representative roles at companies that have actually filed for foreign workers rather than hoping an employer will agree after the fact.
What happens to my green card case if I change territories or get promoted during the PERM process?
A material change to your job duties, title, or work location after PERM is filed can invalidate the labor certification and require refiling. Promotions are especially risky during the I-140 stage. Confirm with your employer's immigration counsel that any internal move won't constitute a material change before accepting a new territory assignment or title.
