Hinge is the dating app designed to be deleted
In today's digital world, finding genuine relationships is tougher than ever. At Hinge, we’re on a mission to inspire intimate connection to create a less lonely world. We’re obsessed with understanding our users’ behaviors to help them find love, and our success is defined by one simple metric– setting up great dates. With millions of users across the globe, we’ve become the most trusted way to find a relationship, for all.
About the Role
We are hiring a Director of UX Research to lead research across our Dating Outcomes and Platform product areas. You will set the vision and strategy for how research informs product decisions across the core product experience at Hinge, focusing on some of Hinge's most complex research questions – understanding what's getting in the way of people forming real connections, and what Hinge needs to become to fundamentally shift how dating works online. The work is ambitious, high-stakes, and directly shapes how Hinge invests.
This is a senior leadership role with significant scope: you'll manage a team of researchers, own the research strategy and roadmap for Dating Outcomes and Platform, and operate as a strategic partner to group-level product, design, data science, and engineering leadership. This is an ideal role for a proven research leader who synthesizes user insights and data science findings into clear product strategy, builds the organizational conditions for teams to execute well, and thrives on ambiguous, high-impact problems.
Responsibilities
- Define and drive the UX research vision, strategy, and roadmap for Dating Outcomes and Platform — prioritizing the questions that need to be answered before roadmaps are locked
- Lead, coach, and grow a team of seasoned, experienced researchers, setting a high bar for craft, rigor, and impact
- Operate as a strategic partner through synthesizing UXR and DS insights into POVs that shape product vision and strategy and inform executive decisions
- Represent Dating Outcomes and Platform insights clearly to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders, communicating roadmaps, tradeoffs, and product implications
- Drive cross-team synthesis and frameworks that unify insights across teams and product groups
- Identify structural and organizational gaps; proactively design ways of working that improve team velocity, cross-functional collaboration, and research quality
- Build a team culture grounded in curiosity, rigor, deep user empathy – and fun!
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years of UX research experience, with 4+ years managing and developing researchers across multiple levels
- Proven track record of leading research across complex, multi-team consumer product portfolios with clear examples of research directly shaping product strategy and measurable outcomes
- Deep expertise across qualitative and quantitative research methods — able to set the methodological bar across a team, partner fluently with Data Science, and integrate quant and qual into a unified research strategy
- Ability to operate at both the strategic and craft level — setting research vision while holding a high bar for rigor and execution across the team
- Experience managing and mentoring highly senior ICs — able to establish clear roles and responsibilities, protect independent scope, and support researchers who are deeply embedded in product strategy and operating at a level that may match or exceed their manager's domain depth
- Demonstrated ability to do the organizational glue work: identifying when teams aren't functioning well, diagnosing root causes, and driving the interventions to fix it
- Confident, clear communicator who can represent research strategy at VP-level forums, influence without authority across product, engineering, design, and data, and present complex tradeoffs accessibly
- Passion for innovation and exploring how emerging technologies, including generative AI, can elevate the craft and impact of research
- Passion for Hinge's mission of helping people build meaningful relationships
Compensation
- Salary Range: $235,000 - $287,000 a year
Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a UX Research Intern
Verify your degree aligns with PERM requirements
PERM labor certification requires a direct relationship between your degree field and the UX Research Intern role. A degree in human-computer interaction, cognitive science, or psychology maps cleanly; a general business degree may require additional documentation to satisfy DOL requirements.
Target employers with structured UX research teams
Intern roles at companies with dedicated UX research departments are far more likely to include PERM sponsorship than generalist product teams. Look for postings that specify degree requirements rather than preferred qualifications, as definite requirements are what PERM filings are built around.
Search green card sponsors using Migrate Mate
Filter by EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history to find employers who have filed for UX and research roles before. Migrate Mate lets you identify companies with verified green card filing records, saving you from applying to firms that only sponsor H-1B visa and never convert to permanent residency.
Clarify sponsorship scope before accepting an offer
Ask specifically whether the employer sponsors EB-3 PERM for intern-to-full-time conversions, not just temporary work visas. Some companies sponsor H-1B but have never filed a PERM, which means your green card path would restart entirely if you later switched employers.
Gather your portfolio evidence now for EB-2 eligibility
If you hold a master's degree in HCI, UX, or a behavioral science, document your advanced research credentials before your first filing. EB-2 requires proof of an advanced degree, so collect official transcripts, published research, or conference presentations that demonstrate graduate-level specialized work.
Understand how prevailing wage affects your job offer
Your employer must file a prevailing wage determination with DOL before starting PERM. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level for your SOC code and location. A Level I wage is standard for intern roles, but your offer must meet or exceed that threshold for the PERM filing to proceed.
Green Card UX Research Intern: Frequently Asked Questions
Can a UX Research Intern role qualify for EB-3 green card sponsorship?
Yes, if the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree in a related field such as human-computer interaction, psychology, or cognitive science. The employer must demonstrate through PERM labor certification that no qualified U.S. worker is available for the role. Intern-to-full-time conversion is the most common path, as PERM filings are rarely initiated for internship positions alone.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B sponsorship for this role?
H-1B is a temporary status with a two- to three-year initial period and an annual lottery cap that creates real selection risk. EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM has no annual lottery and leads to permanent residency rather than a renewable work visa. The tradeoff is timeline: PERM filing, I-140 approval, and adjustment of status can take two to four years, depending on your country of birth and current USCIS processing volumes.
What does the PERM labor certification process involve for UX research roles?
Your employer files an application with DOL certifying that they conducted a good-faith recruitment effort and found no qualified U.S. workers for the position. They must advertise the role at a prevailing wage determined through the OFLC Wage Search. The job duties and degree requirements stated in the PERM filing must match your actual role, which matters for UX Research Interns because vague or overly broad job descriptions can trigger audits.
How do I find UX Research Intern jobs where employers actually sponsor green cards?
Most job postings don't specify whether the employer files PERM, so searching by title alone wastes time. Migrate Mate filters open roles by verified EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship history, letting you focus on employers who have completed PERM filings for research and design roles before. That filing history is a reliable signal that the company understands the process and is willing to invest in permanent sponsorship.
Does EB-2 or EB-3 make more sense for a UX Research Intern candidate?
EB-3 fits most UX Research Intern candidates who hold a bachelor's degree. EB-2 applies if you have a master's degree or higher in a directly related field such as HCI, cognitive psychology, or information science, and the role specifically requires that level of education. USCIS evaluates the job requirements stated in the PERM filing, not just your personal credentials, so the employer's degree requirement determines which category applies.
