Mid Level Guidance Counselor Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level guidance counselor job?
Position yourself around ownership and outcomes: highlight caseloads you managed independently, intervention plans you designed, and students you supported through complex decisions like college applications or crisis situations. Tailor your resume to show depth in a specialization such as academic advising, college counseling, or social-emotional support. Certifications relevant to your state and demonstrated collaboration with administrators strengthen your candidacy significantly.
Which companies hire mid level guidance counselors?
Companies hiring mid level guidance counselors right now include Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and Zone 5 Technologies, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. School districts, community colleges, nonprofit youth organizations, and behavioral health agencies are among the most active employers seeking counselors with several years of direct experience.
Are there remote mid level guidance counselor jobs?
Yes, though most positions still involve some in-person work. About 0% of mid level guidance counselor openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with fully remote roles most common in virtual school programs, telehealth platforms, and college advising services that operate online.
How do I move up to a mid level guidance counselor role?
Growth from entry level into mid level comes from accumulating independent ownership over time. That means taking on larger caseloads without close supervision, driving initiatives like college access programs or student wellness campaigns, and building measurable results you can point to. Counselors who pursue additional licensure, earn specialized credentials, or take on informal leadership on their team tend to make this transition faster.
Which industries hire the most mid level guidance counselors?
Mid Level guidance counselor roles concentrate in Education, Retail, and Science & Research, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive hiring because they serve large student or client populations that require structured support systems, dedicated counseling staff, and professionals experienced enough to handle complex, ongoing cases independently.
