Mid Level School Counselor Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level school counselor job?
Position yourself around the depth and ownership your experience demonstrates. Highlight caseloads you managed independently, programs you designed or improved, and outcomes you tracked for students. Tailor your resume to show specialization, whether in college advising, crisis intervention, or social-emotional learning. Employers at this level want candidates who can step in with minimal ramp-up and contribute meaningfully from day one.
Which companies hire mid level school counselors?
Companies hiring mid level school counselors right now include Hazelwood school district, Newark Board of Education, and Tucson Unified School District, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. At this level, hiring comes primarily from K-12 school districts, charter networks, and higher education institutions that need counselors capable of running programs and handling complex student needs independently.
Are there remote mid level school counselor jobs?
Yes, though most roles remain on-site given the nature of student support work. About 0% of mid level school counselor openings are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, typically found in virtual schools, telehealth-adjacent counseling programs, and district-level coordination roles that do not require daily in-person student contact.
How do I move up to a mid level school counselor role?
The path from entry level to mid level is built on expanding ownership and demonstrating measurable impact. Early-career counselors grow by taking on more complex caseloads, piloting programs, and earning trust to work with less oversight. Building a record of student outcomes, contributing to school-wide initiatives, and developing a specialization, such as college access or behavioral support, signals readiness for mid level responsibilities.
