Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship in And Operations Planning
Map your degree to the role
USCIS requires a direct relationship between your degree field and the operations planning position. A degree in industrial engineering, supply chain management, or operations research gives you the clearest specialty occupation argument during adjudication.
Check LCA filings before applying
Search DOL's OFLC disclosure data for employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications under operations planning or related SOC codes. Employers with recent LCA history are already familiar with the H-1B process and set realistic wage expectations.
Target companies enrolled in E-Verify
E-Verify enrollment is mandatory for federal contractors and STEM OPT employers. For operations planning roles, companies with government contracts are more likely to have dedicated HR infrastructure for H-1B sponsorship and faster internal approval timelines.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Filter for operations planning roles at employers with verified H-1B filing history on Migrate Mate. This cuts out companies that list roles without any track record of sponsoring, saving you weeks of dead-end applications.
Request premium processing when changing employers
If you're transferring an existing H-1B to a new operations planning role, USCIS premium processing reduces adjudication to 15 business days. This protects your ability to start the new role quickly under H-1B portability rules after 180 days of approval.
Verify the prevailing wage tier before negotiating
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for your specific operations planning SOC code and metro area before salary discussions. Your employer's LCA must certify at least that wage, and starting below it creates filing complications.
H-1B Visa And Operations Planning: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an AND Operations Planning job qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, operations planning roles generally qualify when the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as industrial engineering, supply chain management, or operations research. The employer must demonstrate in the H-1B petition that the degree requirement is tied to the actual duties of the role, not just listed as a preference.
Which SOC code do employers typically use for operations planning roles on the LCA?
Employers most commonly file LCAs for operations planning positions under SOC codes for Management Analysts, Industrial Engineers, or Operations Research Analysts, depending on the specific duties. You can cross-reference the occupation description on O*NET to identify which code aligns with your actual responsibilities before reviewing an employer's LCA filing.
How do I find employers who sponsor H-1B visas for operations planning jobs?
Migrate Mate filters operations planning roles by employers with verified H-1B LCA filing history, so you can target companies that have already committed to sponsoring this visa category. This is more reliable than applying broadly and asking about sponsorship during interviews, which wastes time with employers who have no H-1B infrastructure.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new operations planning employer without losing my status?
Yes, under H-1B portability rules, you can start working for a new employer as soon as the transfer petition is filed with USCIS, provided your current H-1B has been approved for at least 180 days and your status has remained valid. The new employer must file an I-129 petition and a certified LCA covering the operations planning role before your first day.
What documentation should I prepare to support the specialty occupation argument for an operations planning H-1B?
Gather your official degree transcripts, degree certificate, and any credential evaluation for foreign degrees. If your degree field isn't an exact match for the role, a detailed letter from the employer explaining why the specific degree is required for the operations planning duties strengthens the petition. USCIS adjudicators scrutinize the nexus between the stated requirements and your academic background closely for this occupation.
