H-1B Visa Artificial Intelligence Scientist Jobs
Artificial Intelligence Scientist roles qualify as H-1B specialty occupations under USCIS because they require at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, or a closely related field. Most positions fall under SOC code 15-2051, and employers must file a certified LCA with DOL before submitting your I-129 petition.

About Xaira Therapeutics
Xaira is an innovative biotech startup focused on leveraging AI to transform drug discovery and development. The company is leading the development of generative AI models to design protein and antibody therapeutics, enabling the creation of medicines against historically hard-to-drug molecular targets. It is also developing foundation models for biology and disease to enable better target elucidation and patient stratification. Collectively, these technologies aim to continually enable the identification of novel therapies and to improve success in drug development. Xaira is headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, and London.
About the Role
We are building foundation models for biological systems, focusing on learning from complex, multimodal data. Our approach combines representation learning and generative modeling to capture structure, variation, and latent organization in high-dimensional settings. We work with both image-based data and high-dimensional molecular (omics) measurements, treating them as complementary views of the same underlying system. Our goal is to develop models that can both encode rich representations and generate or infer missing aspects from partial observations.
What You’ll Do
- Develop multimodal foundation models spanning image and molecular data
- Design approaches that unify representation learning and generative modeling
- Train large-scale models on structured, high-dimensional datasets
- Explore cross-modal alignment, prediction, and generation
- Build scalable systems for data processing, training, and evaluation
- Work in a research-driven environment with evolving problem definitions
What We’re Looking For
- Strong background in deep learning, especially in modern architecture
- Experience with representation learning (self-supervised, contrastive, masked modeling, etc.)
- Experience with generative modeling (diffusion, autoregressive models, VAEs, or related approaches)
- Proficiency in Python, ML frameworks, and CI/CD (PyTorch, JAX, etc.)
Relevant Experience
- Work on multimodal learning or cross-domain representation learning
- Experience with image data, molecular/omics-like data, or both
- Familiarity with large-scale training
Bonus
- Exposure to biological or scientific datasets
- Experience with paired or partially aligned multimodal data
- Comfortable working in open-ended, evolving problem spaces
Compensation
We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package, seeking to provide an open, flexible, and friendly work environment to empower employees and provide them with a platform to develop their long-term careers. A Summary of Benefits is available for all applicants. We offer a competitive package that includes base salary, bonus, and equity. The base pay range for this position is expected to be $170,000 - $240,000 annually; however, the base pay offered may vary depending on the market, job-related knowledge, skills and capabilities, and experience.
Xaira Therapeutics is an equal-opportunity employer. We believe that our strength is in our differences. Our goal to build a diverse and inclusive team began on day one, and it will never end.
TO ALL RECRUITMENT AGENCIES: Xaira Therapeutics does not accept agency resumes. Please do not forward resumes to our jobs alias or employees. Xaira Therapeutics is not responsible for any fees related to unsolicited resumes.

Map your degree to the role
USCIS scrutinizes whether your degree field directly relates to AI science work. A computer science or statistics degree maps cleanly. A business degree with no quantitative focus can trigger an RFE, so document any coursework or credentials that bridge the gap.
Search LCA filings for AI roles
Use Migrate Mate to filter employers by H-1B LCA filing history for AI Scientist positions. DOL disclosure data shows which companies have certified wages and filed for this specific SOC code, cutting your search time significantly.
Verify the prevailing wage tier before negotiating
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above the DOL prevailing wage for your location and experience level. Run the OFLC Wage Search for SOC 15-2051 before you negotiate an offer so you know the floor and can flag any underpayment risk early.
Check whether the role qualifies for cap exemption
AI Scientist positions at universities, nonprofit research institutions, and certain government research labs are cap-exempt, meaning your employer can file year-round without waiting for the April lottery. Confirm the employer's cap-exempt status before counting on that timeline.
Document your publication and patent record now
Peer-reviewed publications, patents, and conference presentations strengthen specialty occupation evidence for AI roles, especially when your job duties push into research territory. Compile a full list with dates and venues before the employer starts the I-129 package.
Clarify premium processing eligibility upfront
USCIS offers premium processing on I-129 petitions, which guarantees a 15-business-day adjudication decision. Confirm with your employer whether they'll elect premium processing before your current work authorization expires, particularly if you're transitioning from OPT.

Find Artificial Intelligence Scientist JobsArtificial Intelligence Scientist H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Artificial Intelligence Scientist role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. USCIS classifies AI Scientist positions as specialty occupations because they require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field such as computer science, applied mathematics, or statistics. The O*NET profile for this occupation confirms a graduate-level education requirement, which supports the specialty occupation determination in the I-129 petition.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for AI Scientist positions?
Technology companies, pharmaceutical firms, financial institutions, and university research labs are among the most active H-1B sponsors for AI Scientist roles. DOL LCA disclosure data shows which specific employers have certified wages for this SOC code. Migrate Mate surfaces that filing history by employer so you can target companies with a demonstrated sponsorship track record rather than guessing.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new AI Scientist role without losing my priority date?
Yes. Under AC21 portability, you can transfer your H-1B to a new employer in the same or a similar occupational classification once your I-140 has been approved for 180 days or more. AI Scientist roles typically fall under the same SOC code, so a transfer to a comparable position at a new employer generally satisfies the same-or-similar requirement.
How does the H-1B lottery affect AI Scientist job seekers?
Cap-subject H-1B petitions enter the annual lottery, with 65,000 regular-cap slots and 20,000 additional slots reserved for U.S. master's degree holders. AI Scientists with a U.S. master's or PhD are eligible for the advanced-degree exemption pool, which improves selection odds. Positions at cap-exempt institutions such as universities bypass the lottery entirely.
What happens to my H-1B status if my AI Scientist role shifts significantly toward research?
If your core duties change materially, your employer may need to file an amended I-129 petition to reflect the new role description. USCIS expects the approved petition to accurately describe your actual work. Significant shifts in job duties, location, or employer entity without an amended filing can create status compliance issues, so flag changes to your employer's immigration counsel promptly.
