Verify your role meets specialty occupation
USCIS requires the Assistant Account Manager position to demand a specific bachelor's degree, not just any degree. Pull the O*NET profile for this role to confirm the education requirement language before accepting an offer.
Target employers with LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Assistant Account Manager roles by employers who have active H-1B LCA filings with the DOL, so you're applying to companies already set up to sponsor, not hoping they'll start the process for you.
Document your degree field precisely
If your degree is in communications, advertising, or a related field rather than business administration, prepare a credential evaluation that maps your coursework to the account management duties in the job description before your employer files.
Ask about cap-exempt entity affiliations
Some agencies hold contracts with universities or nonprofits that qualify them as cap-exempt employers. Ask during the offer stage whether H-1B petitions would be filed cap-subject or through a cap-exempt affiliate, since it changes your start date entirely.
Align your start date with the October 1 cap window
H-1B cap petitions for account management roles must be filed in April for an October 1 start date. If you're graduating mid-year, confirm your OPT end date and whether a cap-gap extension covers the gap through October.
Cross-check prevailing wage before signing
Before signing an offer, run the SOC code for this role through the OFLC Wage Search to confirm the offered wage meets the DOL prevailing wage for your location. An underpaid LCA gets rejected before USCIS ever sees the petition.
H-1B Visa Assistant Account Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Assistant Account Manager role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, if the employer's job description requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as business, marketing, or communications as a minimum requirement. USCIS denies petitions when the role says a degree is preferred but not required, or when any bachelor's degree field is accepted regardless of relevance. Your offer letter and the LCA must both reflect the specific degree requirement.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas for Assistant Account Managers?
Advertising agencies, public relations firms, digital marketing companies, and enterprise software companies are the most consistent H-1B sponsors for this role. Financial services and insurance firms also sponsor, particularly for client-facing account roles that require finance or economics degrees. Use Migrate Mate to browse Assistant Account Manager listings filtered by employers with verified LCA filing history.
Can my employer file an H-1B petition while I'm on OPT?
Yes, and the timing is important. Your employer files the H-1B cap petition in April, and if selected, your H-1B status begins October 1. If your OPT expires before October 1, the cap-gap rule automatically extends your work authorization from the petition filing date through September 30, as long as your petition was filed before your OPT expired.
What happens to my H-1B if I change employers after sponsorship?
H-1B portability lets you transfer to a new employer while your petition is still valid, as long as the new role is in the same or a similar occupational classification. For Assistant Account Managers moving between agencies or industries, the new employer files an H-1B transfer petition before your start date, and you're authorized to work from the filing date without waiting for approval.
How do I know if an employer is set up to sponsor H-1B visas?
An employer must be registered with USCIS and have filed an LCA with the DOL before they can sponsor any H-1B worker. Companies that have never sponsored before face a longer setup process. Checking LCA filing history by employer and role category before you apply saves significant time in the offer stage.
