INTRODUCTION
Washington College is excited to welcome a Clinical Counselor to our Student Affairs Department to help advance student wellness and success.
SUMMARY
The Clinical Counselor provides individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, referral for services in the community (case management), mental health programming for campus constituents, consultation for faculty and staff, and contributes to the administration of the office of counseling.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Individual counseling services provided to students.
- Work collaboratively with other members of both counseling & health services.
- Intake/triage to assess clinical needs and/or referral to campus and community resources.
- Collaborates with Dean of Students office, Health Services, Residential Life, Public Safety, Athletics, Office of Academic Skills, Provost’s Office, and faculty members when appropriate.
- Works closely with student cohorts and groups on campus, such as fraternity and sorority life, student government-endorsed groups and clubs, and athletics.
- Actively engages in student programming to create more awareness of mental health broadly, and suicide prevention specifically.
- Responds to campus emergencies.
- Maintains records and generates reports about students served.
- Serves in the on-call rotation with other counselors to support emergent issues.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Master’s Degree in relevant field. Certification/licensure, or license-eligible within 12 months of hire at the independent practice level, such as LCSW, AAMFT Clinical membership, licensed psychologist.
- Three years’ experience in college/university student services or another relevant clinical environment.
- Clinical training in various therapeutic approaches, such as: CBT, ACT, EFT, and DBT. The ability to practice using the theoretical constructs of modern psychodynamic psychotherapy, self-psychology, and attachment theory in working with students who present with disorders of the self.
- Awareness of and appreciation for diversity and the needs of a diverse student body. The ability to anchor a multi-cultural perspective and approach into clinical work.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration and organizational skills.
- Ability to foster and function effectively in a team environment.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
- Reports to the Dean of Students.
- Compliance with the governing boards of licensure and state regulation in social work, psychology or counseling.
WORK SCHEDULE/HOURS
21-24 hours per week during a 10-month appointment. Occasional weekends and evenings in the event of an emergency or crisis.
SALARY: $30-$32k
