Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Clinical Informatics Analyst
Map your degree to the role
USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation fit closely. A degree in health informatics, biomedical informatics, or computer science maps cleanly. If yours is in nursing or biology, document how your coursework directly supports the analytical and systems functions of the role.
Target health systems with E-Verify enrollment
Hospitals and large integrated health networks are frequent H-1B sponsors and are often already E-Verify enrolled. Focus your search on multi-site health systems and regional medical centers with dedicated IT or informatics departments rather than small clinical practices.
Check prevailing wage before accepting an offer
Your employer's LCA must certify a wage meeting the DOL prevailing wage for your SOC code and location. Run your title through the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating to confirm the offer clears the threshold and avoids an LCA rejection.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsors
Search Clinical Informatics Analyst roles on Migrate Mate to surface employers with confirmed H-1B LCA filing history for this occupation. That filing history signals the employer understands the process and has legal infrastructure in place, reducing your sponsorship risk.
Get your O*NET code ready before interviews
The O*NET occupation profile for clinical informatics roles supports the specialty occupation argument employers make in the LCA. Knowing your SOC code and job zone classification lets you ask informed questions about how the employer will structure your petition.
File premium processing if your start date is fixed
If onboarding is tied to a credentialing or go-live cycle, ask the employer to file USCIS premium processing with the I-129. Standard processing can run several months, and health systems often have inflexible deployment timelines that won't accommodate delays.

Find Clinical Informatics Analyst JobsClinical Informatics Analyst H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Clinical Informatics Analyst role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, in most cases. USCIS evaluates whether the position normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Clinical Informatics Analyst roles requiring EHR implementation, clinical decision support design, or HL7 and FHIR interoperability work typically satisfy this standard. Employers should document the technical complexity of the role in the LCA and petition to withstand a Request for Evidence.
Which types of employers sponsor H-1B visas for Clinical Informatics Analysts?
Health systems, academic medical centers, payers, and health IT vendors are the most consistent sponsors. Consulting firms that place informatics staff at healthcare clients also file H-1B petitions for this role. You can find employers with verified LCA filing history for clinical informatics positions on Migrate Mate, which filters roles by actual DOL filing data rather than self-reported sponsorship willingness.
What SOC code applies to Clinical Informatics Analyst positions?
Most Clinical Informatics Analyst roles are classified under SOC 15-1211 (Computer Systems Analysts) or 15-1299 (Computer and Information Research Scientists, All Other), depending on how the employer structures the position. The SOC code determines the DOL prevailing wage the employer must certify on the LCA, so it matters significantly for both filing accuracy and your compensation negotiation.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new healthcare employer if I change jobs?
Yes. Under H-1B portability rules, you can begin working for a new employer as soon as they file a new I-129 petition, without waiting for approval, provided you're currently in valid H-1B status. Health systems and HIT vendors are accustomed to this process. Confirm the new employer has legal counsel experienced with healthcare informatics roles before accepting the offer.
What happens to my H-1B status if a health system goes through a merger or acquisition?
If the successor employer assumes your existing H-1B through a corporate restructuring, your status can continue without a new petition, provided the job duties and terms remain materially the same. If the role changes significantly or the legal entity is new, the employer typically needs to file an amended H-1B. Ask HR and legal counsel to confirm the approach as soon as a merger is announced.
