About the Role
Reporting to the Web Developer, the Content Writer is responsible for building the content foundation of our in-house website program. In the first 120 days, this person will develop brand voice and content standards, audit in-house sites for content gaps and SEO opportunities, build scalable page templates, and deliver full content sets for the first sites rebuilt on our master WordPress template. The ideal candidate combines strong SEO knowledge with exceptional writing ability and the systems thinking required to produce consistent, high-quality content across a large, multi-brand portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
Content Standards & Systems
- Develop and document a voice and tone guide, style guide, and SEO content standards applicable across Apex brands
- Build page content templates with copy frameworks for home, service, location, about, FAQ, and other core page types, aligned to the design system and brand guidelines
- Develop a scalable framework for high-volume location and service pages that eliminates duplicate content risk across the portfolio
- Establish and maintain an editorial calendar for ongoing blog and organic content production across in-house sites
SEO Content & Workflow
- Define and document an end-to-end SEO content workflow covering keyword research, briefing, drafting, review, and publishing, in close partnership with the Director of SEO
- Conduct a full content audit of in-house sites, documenting page inventory, content gaps, duplicate content risks, and SEO opportunities
- Produce full content sets of 15 to 25 pages per site on a two-week sprint cadence, targeting three or more completed site content sets within the first 120 days
- Ensure all content meets E-E-A-T principles, reflects local brand personality, and supports organic growth goals
KPI/QA Processes
- Support content taxonomy and page tagging standards by clearly identifying brand, market, service line, location, page type, funnel stage, and primary conversion action for each page
- Complete content QA before publishing, including metadata, headings, internal links, schema inputs, CTA alignment, duplicate content risk, service/location accuracy, and brand voice consistency
- Partner with SEO and Analytics stakeholders to understand content performance trends, including organic traffic, clicks, impressions, rankings, engagement, and conversion activity by page type
Collaboration & Quality
- Work closely with the Web Developer and Web Designer to ensure content templates align with design systems and WordPress block structures
- Partner with the Director of SEO on keyword strategy, content priorities, and organic growth opportunities across the portfolio
- Serve as the cross-functional content voice in conversations with SEO, PPC, and Analytics teams
- Maintain content quality and brand consistency across a growing portfolio of in-house sites
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of experience in SEO content writing, with a portfolio demonstrating high-quality, conversion-focused web copy across service-based industries
- Strong working knowledge of SEO content principles including keyword research, on-page optimization, E-E-A-T, and duplicate content avoidance
- Experience building and following content templates and style guides across multiple brands
- Ability to produce content at volume without sacrificing quality, accuracy, or brand consistency
- Familiarity with WordPress and how content is structured within block-based page builders
- Strong communication and collaboration skills; comfortable working across design, development, and SEO functions
- Experience with SEMRush, Ahrefs, etc. for keyword research and content gap analysis
- Experience in home services or multi-location brand environments a plus
- Experience with project management tools such as Monday.com a plus
Role Requirements
- Role is full time in Irving-Las Colinas, TX
- All employees must work in our office 4 days a week, with Wednesday being work-from-home

Frame your degree as specialty occupation proof
USCIS requires Content Writer roles to demand a specific bachelor's degree, not just any degree. Document how your English, journalism, or communications degree directly underpins your writing methodology, not just your general skills.
Search LCA filings before applying
Use the OFLC Wage Search to find employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for Writer or Content Specialist roles. Past LCA filings confirm an employer already understands the H-1B process for your occupation.
Target publishers, SaaS companies, and media firms
These industries file H-1B petitions for content roles at higher rates than most sectors. Prioritize employers whose core product depends on written output, where your degree-backed role is harder to classify as non-specialty.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsors
Pull up Content Writer roles on Migrate Mate filtered by employers with active H-1B filing history. This cuts the time spent cold-applying to companies that have never sponsored a writer and won't start with you.
Request your I-129 receipt notice timeline upfront
Before accepting an offer, ask whether the employer plans to use premium processing. Standard I-129 adjudication can stretch beyond six months, so confirming the employer's filing timeline protects your start date.
Align your portfolio to O*NET task descriptions
The O*NET profile for Writers and Authors defines the task taxonomy USCIS adjudicators reference. Structure your writing samples and resume around those defined tasks to reinforce that your role meets specialty occupation criteria.
H-1B Visa Content Writer: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Content Writer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It can, but it's not automatic. USCIS evaluates whether the specific position normally requires a bachelor's degree in a field directly related to the duties. A Content Writer role tied to technical documentation, UX writing, or a specialized industry like legal or medical publishing is easier to defend than a generalist blogging position with no degree requirement in the job description.
What degree fields support an H-1B petition for a Content Writer?
English, journalism, communications, and marketing are the most commonly accepted fields. Creative writing and technical communication degrees also qualify when the role matches. A degree in an unrelated field, even if you have strong writing skills, weakens the specialty occupation argument unless you have additional coursework or a second degree that directly connects to the position.
How do I find Content Writer jobs where the employer is already willing to sponsor H-1B visas?
Search Migrate Mate for Content Writer roles filtered by employers with documented H-1B filing history. Employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for writing or content roles in the past are far more likely to sponsor again than those with no prior record, since they've already built the internal process for doing it.
Can a Content Writer role be denied H-1B status even if the employer is willing to sponsor?
Yes. USCIS can issue a Request for Evidence challenging whether the role genuinely requires a specialty degree. This happens most often when job postings say a degree is preferred rather than required, or when the employer can't demonstrate that all similar positions in the company require the same degree. Getting the job description language right before filing matters significantly.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for a Content Writer H-1B petition?
The employer must pay at least the prevailing wage for your specific job title, experience level, and work location, as determined by the DOL. You can look up the applicable wage level using the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating an offer. The wage is tied to your worksite, so remote arrangements where you live in a different city than the employer's headquarters affect which prevailing wage applies.
