Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Developer Relations Manager
Verify your role qualifies as specialty occupation
USCIS requires Developer Relations Manager positions to demand a specific technical bachelor's degree, not just any degree. Pull the O*NET profile for your SOC code and confirm your job description mirrors those educational requirements before applying.
Target employers with active LCA filing histories
Use the OFLC Wage Search to filter Labor Condition Application records by job title and location. Companies with recent DevRel LCA filings have already cleared internal approvals and understand the H-1B process for this role type.
Search verified H-1B sponsors on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate surfaces employers with verified H-1B LCA filing histories for Developer Relations roles, so you're not cold-applying to companies that have never sponsored this title before.
Clarify whether the role is cap-exempt
If a DevRel Manager position is at a university, nonprofit research organization, or government entity, it may qualify for cap-exempt H-1B filing, bypassing the lottery entirely. Confirm the employer's status with USCIS before accepting an offer.
Negotiate premium processing into your offer
Developer relations hiring often has a fast onboarding timeline that conflicts with standard H-1B adjudication windows. Ask employers to include premium processing in your offer letter before signing, since this shortens the USCIS review window significantly.
Document your developer community output before filing
DevRel roles can draw RFEs if the specialty occupation nexus between your degree and the position isn't obvious. Compile technical blog posts, conference talks, SDK contributions, and API documentation you've authored to strengthen the petition record.
H-1B Visa Developer Relations Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Developer Relations Manager role qualify for H-1B sponsorship?
Yes, if the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field such as computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline. Generic management experience alone won't satisfy USCIS's specialty occupation standard. The job description needs to show that the technical degree is a baseline requirement, not a preference.
Which employers sponsor H-1B visas for Developer Relations Managers?
Companies in cloud infrastructure, API platforms, developer tooling, and enterprise software tend to file LCAs for DevRel roles most consistently. You can verify which employers have active H-1B filing histories for this title on Migrate Mate, which filters by role and location using DOL disclosure data.
What SOC code is typically used for Developer Relations Manager H-1B petitions?
Employers most commonly file under SOC 11-2021 (Marketing Managers) or 15-1299 (Computer Occupations, All Other), depending on how the role is structured. The SOC code determines the prevailing wage level DOL certifies on the LCA, so it directly affects your offer's compliance requirements. Ask your employer which code they plan to use before your petition is filed.
Can a Developer Relations Manager role trigger an RFE from USCIS?
Yes. Roles that blend technical work with community engagement, marketing, and business development can draw Requests for Evidence if USCIS questions whether a specific degree is actually required. A strong petition includes a detailed job duties breakdown, evidence of technical output such as documentation or code contributions, and a clear degree-to-role connection in the employer's support letter.
How does the H-1B lottery affect Developer Relations Manager job seekers?
Most DevRel Manager positions are filed under the regular H-1B cap and are subject to the annual lottery, which runs in March for an October 1 start date. If you hold a master's degree from a U.S. institution, your registration enters both the master's cap and the general cap pools, giving you two chances at selection. USCIS publishes registration results and next steps on its website each spring.
