H-1B Visa Group Leader Jobs
Group Leader roles qualify for H-1B sponsorship when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field, such as engineering, operations management, or a natural science. Employers file the Labor Condition Application before your H-1B petition, certifying the role meets prevailing wage requirements for your work location.

Verify your role meets specialty occupation standards
Pull the O*NET profile for Group Leader and confirm the listed education requirement is a specific bachelor's degree field, not a general degree. A vague job description weakens the specialty occupation argument at USCIS and invites a Request for Evidence.
Check prevailing wage before accepting an offer
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for Group Leader in your specific work location before negotiations. Your employer must certify at least that wage on the Labor Condition Application, so knowing the floor protects you.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search Migrate Mate to identify employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for Group Leader or closely related supervisory titles. Prior filings signal that the company's legal team already understands the specialty occupation requirements for this role type.
Align your credential documentation to the job description
If your degree title doesn't map directly to the Group Leader role, get a credential evaluation that draws explicit connections between your coursework and the supervisory or technical functions listed in the job posting before your employer files.
Clarify multi-site work arrangements with your employer early
Group Leaders often oversee teams across multiple locations. Each worksite requires a separate Labor Condition Application posting, and your employer must file an amended H-1B petition if your primary worksite changes materially. Confirm this process before signing your offer.
File for premium processing if your start date is fixed
USCIS premium processing guarantees a response within 15 business days. For Group Leader roles with hard project or plant launch deadlines, the upgrade prevents a standard processing delay from pushing your start date past the operational window your employer planned around.

Does a Group Leader role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
It depends on how the position is defined. A Group Leader role qualifies as a specialty occupation when the employer can demonstrate it normally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field, such as engineering, manufacturing technology, or operations management. Generalist supervisory titles without a defined degree requirement are harder to support. The job description and your employer's internal job classification both factor into how USCIS evaluates the petition.
What should I look for in an employer's H-1B filing history for Group Leader roles?
Focus on whether the employer has filed Labor Condition Applications for Group Leader or comparable supervisory titles in your industry, not just whether they sponsor H-1B visas generally. An employer experienced with technical or production Group Leader filings will already have documentation templates and legal support in place. Migrate Mate surfaces employers with relevant LCA filing history so you can target companies already familiar with the specialty occupation argument for this role type.
Can my employer change my worksite after my H-1B is approved?
A material change in your primary worksite typically requires your employer to file an amended H-1B petition with USCIS and post a new Labor Condition Application at the new location. For Group Leaders who rotate between facilities or move to a new plant, this is a real compliance issue. Short-term placements at non-listed worksites within the same area of intended employment may not require an amendment, but your employer's immigration counsel should make that determination before the move.
How does a Group Leader role affect the H-1B cap and lottery process?
Most Group Leader positions at private-sector employers are subject to the annual H-1B cap and the lottery selection process. The 85,000-slot annual limit applies, with 20,000 slots reserved for applicants holding a U.S. master's degree or higher. If you already hold H-1B status through a different employer, a transfer to a new company in a Group Leader role uses your existing H-1B and does not require a new lottery selection.
What documentation should I prepare before my employer files my H-1B petition for a Group Leader role?
You'll need official transcripts and, if your degree is from outside the U.S., a credential evaluation that maps your coursework to the specific field the Group Leader role requires. A detailed letter from your employer explaining why the position normally requires a degree in that field is equally important. If your academic background is in a related but not identical discipline, a portfolio of specialized work experience or certifications can strengthen the specialty occupation argument at USCIS.
