Verify your degree aligns with the role
USCIS requires your degree field to directly relate to supply chain planning. A logistics, industrial engineering, or operations management degree is straightforward. A business degree without supply chain coursework can trigger an RFE, so gather transcripts that show relevant coursework before applying.
Look up prevailing wages before negotiating
Use the OFLC Wage Search to find the Level I through Level IV prevailing wages for Supply Chain Planner in your target metro. Your offer letter must meet or exceed the certified LCA wage, so knowing the floor protects you during salary discussions.
Target employers with LCA filing history
Filter for Supply Chain Planner roles on Migrate Mate to see which employers have active LCA filings for this occupation code. Employers already in the DOL system move faster and face fewer delays than first-time H-1B filers.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer
Any employer sponsoring your H-1B must complete Form I-9 verification. Ask HR directly whether they're enrolled in E-Verify before you negotiate. Unenrolled employers can still sponsor H-1Bs, but enrollment signals the compliance infrastructure needed for a smooth filing.
Understand cap-gap coverage if you're on OPT
If your OPT expires before October 1 and your H-1B petition is selected in the lottery, cap-gap automatically extends your work authorization. Confirm with your employer that they'll file before your OPT end date so the cap-gap bridge applies without a gap in employment.
Request premium processing for time-sensitive starts
USCIS premium processing guarantees a 15-business-day adjudication decision on your I-129 petition. For supply chain roles with hard project start dates or fiscal-year headcount windows, ask your employer to elect premium processing so hiring timelines don't slip.
H-1B Visa Supply Chain Planner: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Supply Chain Planner role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. Supply Chain Planner qualifies as a specialty occupation because the role typically requires at least a bachelor's degree in supply chain management, operations research, industrial engineering, or a closely related field. USCIS evaluates the degree requirement against the specific duties in your offer letter, so the job description must reference analytical, forecasting, or procurement responsibilities that a generalist degree wouldn't cover.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas for Supply Chain Planner positions?
Manufacturing, consumer electronics, retail, pharmaceuticals, and e-commerce logistics are the sectors with the highest volume of LCA filings for supply chain planning roles. Companies managing complex global supplier networks or just-in-time production schedules have the most consistent need. You can find employers actively filing for this occupation on Migrate Mate, filtered by industry and location.
How does the prevailing wage requirement affect Supply Chain Planner offers?
Before your employer files the LCA with DOL, they must certify they'll pay you at or above the prevailing wage for the occupation in your work location. Prevailing wages are tiered by experience level using the OFLC Wage Search. Entry-level placements are set at Level I, while senior planners with forecasting or vendor management scope typically fall at Level II or Level III.
Can a staffing agency sponsor an H-1B for a Supply Chain Planner role?
Yes, but USCIS scrutinizes third-party placement arrangements more heavily than direct-hire sponsorships. The agency must demonstrate it controls the work conditions, and the end client must provide a letter confirming the placement. For supply chain roles, direct sponsorship from the operating company is more straightforward and less likely to attract a Request for Evidence.
What happens to my H-1B if my employer goes through a supply chain reorganization or layoff?
If your position is eliminated, you have a 60-day grace period under USCIS rules to find a new employer, file a change of status, or depart the U.S. A new employer can file an H-1B transfer petition that lets you start working once the receipt notice is issued, without waiting for full approval. Acting quickly and documenting your job search protects your status during this window.
