The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) is seeking clinician-educators and academic physicians. The faculty will join the Primary Care Section of the Division of General Internal Medicine. Practice in an outpatient setting, among enthusiastic colleagues with a reputation for excellence, with opportunities for teaching and scholarship. The Internal Medicine Clinic is a patient-centered medical home (PCMH), serving a diverse patient population of over 20,000 patients annually. We practice cutting edge team-based care, have an integrated complex care program, and maintain a focus on other special programs such as cancer survivor care and have options to hone skills such as wound care, joint injections, IUD placements, cryotherapy, and more. Our affiliated hospital, Froedtert Hospital, is a 500-bed, Level I award-winning, regional referral center. Two special hybrid opportunities are listed below:
- Faculty would spend a portion of their effort providing contracted services at The Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers (SSCHC), the area’s largest FQHC which serves a diverse (mostly Spanish speaking) and under-resourced population in Milwaukee. The faculty member would be expected to provide some clinical services as well as resident precepting at their resident continuity clinic. The faculty member would also have the opportunity to participate and/or lead quality improvement efforts and research at SSCHC and teach/mentor for the APP Fellowship in Primary Care and Community Health at SSCHC.
- Faculty members can also be part of a new and innovative cancer survivorship program. GIM faculty participate in a multidisciplinary clinic in coordination with the oncology service to ensure optimal care for cancer survivors with complex needs. Some interest or background in oncology would be important.
ABOUT THE DIVISION OF GENERAL INTERNAL MEDICINE
The Division of General Internal Medicine is the largest of ten divisions within the Department of Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin. The mission is best expressed through its commitment to patient care, medical education, research, and innovation, as well as its regional and national presence as a leader in the comprehensive care and treatment of the adult patient. The Division consists of four Sections: Primary Care, Hospitalist Medicine, Perioperative and Consultative Medicine, and the VA General Internal Medicine (including both primary care and hospitalist medicine). Division members provide clinical service in the areas of inpatient, primary, and urgent care at both Froedtert Hospital and the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center. They also foster innovation and conduct research in patient care and clinical knowledge, with the aim of reducing the cost of medical care through clinical efficiency and patient education. Many faculty members serve in leadership roles with the Society of General Internal Medicine, the Society of Hospital Medicine and the American College of Physicians, and many present frequently at regional and national meetings of these societies. The Division is home to many of the key educational leaders in the Department of Medicine, including six internal medicine residency associate program directors, three clerkship directors, three leaders of M1-2 Discovery Curriculum courses, and many elective rotation directors.
