H-1B Visa Research Analyst Jobs
Research Analyst roles qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship when the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as economics, statistics, social sciences, or data science. Employers file an LCA with DOL before petitioning USCIS, and the 85,000-slot annual cap means timing your job search around the April lottery window is critical.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Research Analyst
Map your degree to the SOC code
USCIS evaluates specialty occupation by matching your degree field to the job's SOC classification. Pull the O*NET profile for Research Analyst roles and confirm your transcript reflects the required field before applying.
Target employers with LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Research Analyst roles by verified DOL LCA filings, so you're applying to employers who have already sponsored the occupation code, not ones who may balk at the paperwork.
Verify prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your job title and location. Run the OFLC Wage Search before accepting an offer to confirm the posted salary meets the Level I through Level IV threshold for your market.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment for STEM-adjacent roles
If your research role sits under a STEM-designated SOC code and you're on OPT, your employer must be E-Verify enrolled. Check enrollment status during the offer stage, not after you've signed.
Request cap-exempt sponsorship if the employer qualifies
Universities, nonprofits affiliated with higher education, and government research organizations are cap-exempt. A Research Analyst role at a qualifying institution lets your employer file any time of year, bypassing the April lottery entirely.
Get written clarity on premium processing before the lottery
Standard H-1B adjudication can stretch beyond six months. Ask employers whether they'll elect premium processing at filing so you know your expected start-date window before committing to resign from your current role.
H-1B Visa Research Analyst: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Research Analyst role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B purposes?
Yes, provided the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific related field such as economics, statistics, social sciences, or data science. Roles that accept any bachelor's degree regardless of field are riskier to sponsor because USCIS may challenge the specialty occupation requirement. Your employer's job description should name the specific degree field required, not just a general preference.
How do I find employers who have sponsored Research Analyst H-1B visas before?
Migrate Mate surfaces Research Analyst roles filtered by verified DOL LCA filing history, so every listing you see represents an employer who has already navigated the sponsorship process for this occupation. Employers with prior LCA certifications for the same SOC code are far less likely to withdraw an offer when they see the actual paperwork involved.
What happens to my H-1B petition if the research project I was hired for ends early?
Your H-1B status is tied to the employer of record, not the specific project. If the project ends but the employer retains you in a comparable Research Analyst role, your status is unaffected. If the employer terminates your position, you have a 60-day grace period under USCIS rules to find a new sponsoring employer, change status, or depart the U.S.
Can a government or university research lab sponsor me for an H-1B without going through the lottery?
Yes. Institutions of higher education, affiliated nonprofits, and government research organizations are cap-exempt under USCIS rules, meaning they can file an H-1B petition any time of year and bypass the 85,000-slot annual lottery. Research analyst positions at federal agencies, national labs, and accredited universities frequently fall into this category and are worth prioritizing in your job search.
How does the DOL prevailing wage requirement affect Research Analyst offers?
Before filing the LCA, your employer must certify that your offered salary meets the DOL prevailing wage for your specific job title, experience level, and work location. You can cross-check the applicable wage using the OFLC Wage Search before accepting an offer. If the salary is below the prevailing wage threshold for your level, the LCA will be rejected and the H-1B petition cannot proceed.
