Align your degree to the role
Customer marketing sits at the intersection of CRM, lifecycle strategy, and retention analytics. Document how your degree field maps directly to these functions, USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation claims when the degree-to-role connection isn't explicit in your offer letter.
Research LCA filings before applying
Use the OFLC Wage Search to verify that a prospective employer has filed Labor Condition Applications for marketing manager roles. Employers with no LCA history in this occupation category often lack internal H-1B infrastructure, which slows or stalls sponsorship.
Target employers enrolled in E-Verify
E-Verify enrollment signals that an employer has an established immigration compliance process. For customer marketing roles, SaaS companies and enterprise tech firms with dedicated HR operations are more likely to have sponsored this job classification before.
Use Migrate Mate to filter sponsors
Search Migrate Mate to surface Senior Customer Marketing Manager roles at companies with verified H-1B filing history. Filtering by employers who have sponsored this occupation code saves you from pitching sponsorship to companies with no precedent for it.
Negotiate a pre-lottery offer timeline
H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start. Secure your offer letter by February so your employer has time to complete the LCA certification with DOL and file your I-129 petition before the registration window closes.
Prepare a role-specific support letter
Ask your employer to draft a support letter that ties the Senior Customer Marketing Manager duties to your specific degree field using O*NET occupation codes. Vague job descriptions are a leading cause of RFEs for marketing roles under H-1B specialty occupation review.
H-1B Visa Senior Customer Marketing Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Customer Marketing Manager role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as marketing, business administration, or communications. USCIS evaluates the job duties against the degree requirement, so your offer letter must specify that the role theoretically and practically requires that specialized degree, not just any bachelor's degree.
Which employers are most likely to sponsor H-1B visas for this role?
SaaS companies, enterprise technology firms, and large consumer brands with dedicated customer success or lifecycle marketing functions have the most consistent H-1B filing history for marketing manager roles. You can browse verified sponsors on Migrate Mate, which surfaces employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications for this occupation category.
How does the H-1B lottery affect my job search as a customer marketing professional?
Cap-subject H-1B petitions are selected in a randomized lottery each April for an October 1 start date. You'll need a signed offer letter in place before your employer can register you. If you're on OPT or have cap-exempt status through a previous employer, you may have more flexibility on start dates and timing.
Can my employer list performance marketing or CRM tools as evidence for specialty occupation?
Yes, and it strengthens the petition. Employers who document that the Senior Customer Marketing Manager role requires proficiency in specific analytics platforms, marketing automation systems, or attribution methodologies demonstrate why a generalist or non-degreed candidate couldn't perform the role, which supports USCIS's specialty occupation threshold.
What happens to my H-1B status if I'm promoted or change teams within the same company?
A significant change in job duties, title, or work location typically requires an amended H-1B petition filed with USCIS before the change takes effect. Moving from a customer marketing role into a broader growth or demand generation function may constitute a material change that triggers an amendment, so confirm with your employer's immigration counsel before accepting an internal transfer.
