Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as a Test Engineering Manager
Frame your credentials around specialty occupation
Pull the O*NET profile for Test Engineering Manager and map your degree and experience directly to the listed knowledge requirements. USCIS denies petitions when the degree-to-role connection isn't explicit, so build that case before you start applying.
Target employers with cap-exempt filing history
Universities, affiliated nonprofits, and qualifying research institutions can sponsor H-1B workers outside the annual cap and at any time of year. Test engineering leadership roles exist at these organizations, and skipping the lottery eliminates the biggest timing risk in your job search.
Search verified sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Filter Test Engineering Manager roles by employers who have filed H-1B Labor Condition Applications through DOL. Migrate Mate surfaces that filing history by role and employer so you're not guessing which companies will actually sponsor.
Verify prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for your job title, level, and work location before discussing compensation. Your employer's LCA must certify a wage at or above that threshold, so knowing it protects you from an underpayment that could jeopardize the filing.
Clarify the petition timeline during offer negotiation
Ask the recruiting team whether they file I-129 petitions for cap-subject H-1B roles in April or use premium processing. A Test Engineering Manager role starting in October requires the petition submitted in April, so confirming this before you accept avoids a six-month gap in your authorization.
Document your management scope for the I-129
USCIS scrutinizes manager titles to confirm the role involves specialized duties, not just supervision of lower-level workers. Prepare a detailed job description that specifies the engineering systems you oversee, team size, and the specialized knowledge required to direct testing strategy and quality frameworks.

Find Test Engineering Manager JobsTest Engineering Manager H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Test Engineering Manager role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes. USCIS classifies Test Engineering Manager as a specialty occupation because the role requires theoretical and practical application of engineering principles at a level normally met by a bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field. The employer must demonstrate in the LCA and I-129 petition that the specific position requires that degree in a directly related discipline.
Which employers typically sponsor H-1B visas for Test Engineering Manager roles?
Semiconductor companies, aerospace and defense contractors, automotive manufacturers with embedded systems divisions, and enterprise software firms with hardware product lines regularly file H-1B LCAs for test engineering leadership roles. You can search DOL LCA disclosure data through Migrate Mate to see which employers have filed for this specific job title and where those positions are located.
Can I transfer my H-1B to a new employer if I'm already a Test Engineering Manager?
Yes. H-1B portability under AC21 lets you start working for a new employer as soon as the transfer petition is filed with USCIS, provided your current H-1B was approved and you're maintaining status. The new employer files a fresh I-129 with an updated LCA, and you don't lose your place in the priority date queue if you're in a green card backlog.
How does the H-1B prevailing wage requirement affect Test Engineering Manager hiring?
DOL requires employers to pay the higher of the actual wage paid to comparable employees or the prevailing wage for the role in that geographic area. For Test Engineering Manager, the prevailing wage varies significantly by level and location. You can look up the applicable wage using OFLC Wage Search before and after receiving an offer to confirm the LCA-certified wage is accurate for your level and work site.
Does moving to a remote work arrangement affect my H-1B status as a Test Engineering Manager?
Yes. If you work remotely from a location not listed on your approved LCA, your employer must file an amended LCA and potentially an amended I-129 petition with USCIS for the new worksite. Test Engineering Manager roles that shift to a different metropolitan statistical area require a new prevailing wage determination because DOL wage levels are tied to the specific location where you perform the work.
