Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding H-1B Visa Sponsorship as an Electrical Systems Engineer
Align your credentials to SOC 17-2071
Your degree field matters more than your job title. USCIS expects a direct relationship between your electrical engineering credentials and the role. A degree in computer science or physics may trigger an RFE, so gather transcripts and a credential evaluation before applying.
Search LCA filings by occupation code
Use Migrate Mate to filter employers who have filed LCAs under SOC code 17-2071. That filing history confirms they understand the H-1B process for this specific role, not just for software engineers or other commonly sponsored occupations.
Target E-Verify enrolled defense contractors
Aerospace and defense employers sponsoring electrical systems roles are almost always E-Verify enrolled, which is a prerequisite for any security clearance pathway. Prioritizing these employers removes a common onboarding obstacle that delays your start date after approval.
Verify prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your job zone and work location. Run your offer against the OFLC Wage Search using SOC 17-2071 and the actual worksite ZIP code before accepting, since underpayment invalidates the LCA.
Clarify project site work before your petition is filed
Electrical systems engineers frequently work across multiple client sites or field locations. Each site requires a separate LCA posting. Confirm with your employer how they handle multi-site LCAs before filing, or USCIS may issue an RFE questioning the bona fide employer-employee relationship.
Request premium processing if your start date is fixed
USCIS premium processing guarantees a decision within 15 business days. For roles tied to a construction schedule, product launch, or government contract start date, standard processing timelines of several months make premium processing a practical necessity, not a luxury.

Find Electrical Systems Engineer JobsElectrical Systems Engineer H-1B Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Electrical Systems Engineer role qualify as an H-1B specialty occupation?
Yes, in most cases. USCIS evaluates whether the position normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical discipline. Electrical Systems Engineer roles tied to power systems design, control architecture, or embedded systems typically satisfy that standard under SOC 17-2071. Roles framed as general engineering technician work can face scrutiny, so your employer's job description should specify the degree requirement clearly.
Which industries sponsor H-1B visas most often for this role?
Aerospace and defense, automotive, utilities and energy, semiconductor manufacturing, and industrial automation firms file the highest volume of LCAs for electrical systems engineering roles. Government contractors also sponsor regularly, though active security clearance eligibility often factors into hiring decisions. Browse verified sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate to see which companies have active LCA filing history under the relevant SOC code.
How does working across multiple project sites affect my H-1B petition?
Each worksite where you perform H-1B labor must have a certified LCA posted and on file. If your role involves rotating between client facilities or field sites, your employer must either file a blanket LCA covering those locations or obtain site-specific certifications before you begin work there. Failure to do this is one of the more common compliance violations USCIS flags during audits of engineering roles.
Can I switch employers mid-project without losing H-1B status?
Yes, under H-1B portability rules, you can begin working for a new employer as soon as they file an H-1B transfer petition on your behalf, provided your current status is valid. You don't need to wait for USCIS approval before starting. Your new employer still needs to file a fresh LCA and I-129, so the transfer isn't instantaneous and typically takes two to four weeks to initiate.
What O*NET job zone does this role fall under, and why does it matter?
Electrical Systems Engineer typically falls under O*NET Job Zone 4 or 5, requiring substantial preparation and a bachelor's degree or higher in a related engineering field. USCIS uses O*NET classifications as supporting evidence when evaluating specialty occupation status. If your employer's job description aligns with the O*NET profile for this occupation, it strengthens the petition and reduces the likelihood of a Request for Evidence.
