Verify your CFA or CFP credential transfers
U.S. employers in financial planning treat the CFA charterholder designation as globally portable, but your CFP certification from Singapore may need a credential evaluation. Confirm equivalency with NASAA or FINRA licensing requirements before your first interview.
Search employer LCA filings by occupation code
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified DOL Labor Condition Application filings for financial planning roles, so you target companies that have already navigated H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship rather than educating employers from scratch.
Check prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
Your employer must certify your salary meets the DOL prevailing wage for your role and location. Run the OFLC Wage Search using the correct SOC code for financial planners before you negotiate, so your offer is structured to pass LCA certification on the first attempt.
Confirm your role qualifies as a specialty occupation
H-1B1 Singapore requires the position to be a specialty occupation under U.S. immigration law. Check the O*NET profile for your exact job title to confirm it requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field, and document that match before your consulate interview.
Get the LCA certified before scheduling your visa interview
DOL must certify the LCA, typically within seven working days of submission, before you can schedule your consulate appointment. Coordinate with your employer's HR or legal team to confirm LCA status so you don't book an interview slot prematurely.
Prepare your nonimmigrant intent documentation
Unlike H-1B visa, the H-1B1 Singapore visa does not confer dual intent. Consulate officers will assess your ties to Singapore. Gather documentation of ongoing financial or family ties before your interview to address this directly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Financial Planning role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1 Singapore?
Yes, financial planning qualifies when the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a closely related field. Roles that accept any degree field or substitute years of experience without a degree requirement may not meet the specialty occupation standard. Your employer documents this in the Labor Condition Application and confirms it at the consulate.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa compare to H-1B for financial planning professionals?
The H-1B1 Singapore visa has no lottery, no USCIS petition, and a 5,400-visa annual cap that has never been exhausted. H-1B requires your employer to file a USCIS petition and enter a lottery where selection is not guaranteed. For Singaporean nationals in financial planning, H-1B1 Singapore is a faster, more predictable path to U.S. employment.
How do I find employers who actively sponsor H-1B1 Singapore visas for financial planning jobs?
Use Migrate Mate to search DOL Labor Condition Application filings filtered by occupation and visa type. This shows you which employers have filed LCAs for financial planning roles rather than companies that simply claim to sponsor visas. Targeting employers with a documented filing history saves time and avoids dead-end applications.
Can I hold Series 65 or Series 7 FINRA licenses on an H-1B1 Singapore visa?
You can sit for FINRA licensing exams and hold registrations on H-1B1 Singapore status, but sponsorship for the exams and the visa are separate processes. Your employer handles the LCA and visa sponsorship while you pursue FINRA licensing independently. Confirm with your employer that your authorized role and license scope align before you begin the licensing process.
What happens to my H-1B1 Singapore status if my employer terminates my employment?
The H-1B1 Singapore visa does not carry the 60-day grace period that H-1B holders receive after termination. Your status is tied directly to the certified LCA and active employment. If your employment ends, you need to depart the U.S. or secure a new employer and a new LCA before your current authorized period expires.
