Frame your degree field precisely
H-1B1 visa requires a degree directly related to the role. A general business degree alone may not satisfy specialty occupation for Head of Product. Pair it with relevant graduate credentials or documentation showing product management coursework aligned to the job duties.
Target companies with active LCA history
Search OFLC Wage Search for employers who have previously filed Labor Condition Applications for product management roles. Companies with recent LCA activity for similar titles are already familiar with H-1B1 Singapore filing mechanics and less likely to withdraw an offer mid-process.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsors
Search Migrate Mate to identify employers with documented H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship history for product roles. Targeting verified sponsors directly saves weeks of outreach to companies that haven't navigated the visa category before.
Verify your O*NET classification before applying
Head of Product maps to specific O*NET occupation codes that determine prevailing wage levels and specialty occupation standing. Confirm the correct code before negotiations start so your offered title and duties align with what the employer files in the LCA.
Negotiate timing around LCA certification windows
The DOL typically certifies LCAs within seven business days. Factor this into your offer timeline so the employer files the LCA before your start date is set. Starting work without a certified LCA puts both you and the employer out of compliance.
Prepare your consulate packet before the offer closes
Unlike H-1B visa, your H-1B1 Singapore application goes directly to the U.S. consulate in Singapore, not USCIS. Have your DS-160, certified LCA, job offer letter, and academic credentials organized in advance so you can schedule your visa interview immediately after the offer is signed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Head of Product role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1 Singapore?
Yes, provided the role requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as computer science, engineering, or business administration. The employer must document this requirement in the Labor Condition Application. Roles where any degree is accepted regardless of field are harder to qualify, so your job description should specify the degree field explicitly.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa compare to H-1B for Head of Product jobs?
H-1B1 Singapore skips the lottery entirely, uses a 5,400-annual cap that has never been exhausted, and is processed at the U.S. consulate in Singapore rather than through USCIS. H-1B goes through USCIS and carries a lottery that rejected most applicants in recent fiscal years. For Singaporean nationals in product leadership roles, H-1B1 is a faster, more predictable path.
How do I find employers who will sponsor Head of Product roles on H-1B1 Singapore?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by verified sponsorship history, so you can identify companies that have previously filed Labor Condition Applications for product management roles under H-1B1 Singapore. This is more reliable than cold outreach to companies with no prior exposure to the visa category, where offers frequently stall during the LCA phase.
Can I switch employers while on H-1B1 Singapore status?
Yes, but unlike H-1B portability under AC21, H-1B1 Singapore does not carry automatic portability. Your new employer must file a fresh LCA and you must obtain a new H-1B1 visa at the consulate before starting with them. Plan for at least a few weeks of gap between roles to complete the consulate appointment and allow your new status to activate.
What happens if my Head of Product role evolves significantly after I receive H-1B1 sponsorship?
A material change in job duties, title, or work location may require your employer to file an amended LCA with DOL. If the new duties no longer meet the specialty occupation standard, your status could be at risk. Keep your HR and legal contacts informed when your scope changes substantially, particularly if you move from an individual contributor product role into executive general management.
