Verify your degree meets specialty occupation standards
VP Sales roles require a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a directly related field. If your degree is in an unrelated discipline, gather employer documentation showing the role requires specialized academic training, not just sales experience.
Target employers with active LCA filing histories
Use the OFLC Wage Search to identify companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for senior sales roles. Employers already familiar with H-1B1 Singapore processes move faster and rarely require internal legal approvals from scratch.
Search H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings by employers with verified H-1B1 Singapore filing history, so you're targeting companies already set up to sponsor your visa rather than educating hiring managers about a visa category they've never processed.
Prepare a prevailing wage comparison before salary negotiations
Your employer must certify your offered salary meets DOL prevailing wage standards for your job title and location. Pull the current wage level from the OFLC Wage Search before negotiations so your offer clears the LCA threshold without delays.
Apply at the U.S. consulate in Singapore, not through USCIS
H-1B1 Singapore applications go directly to the consulate once your employer's LCA is certified. You don't need USCIS approval or an I-129 petition, which cuts weeks off the standard H-1B visa timeline and keeps the process entirely consulate-driven.
Align your start date with the LCA certification window
Your employer can file the LCA up to six months before your intended start date. For VP-level roles where onboarding is time-sensitive, confirm the certified LCA is in hand before you give notice to your current employer in Singapore.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a VP Sales role qualify as a specialty occupation under H-1B1 Singapore?
Yes, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field such as business administration, marketing, or management. If the employer hires VP Sales candidates from any undergraduate background, the specialty occupation requirement may not be met, and the application could face consular scrutiny. The O*NET profile for sales managers documents the typical educational requirements for this occupational category.
How does H-1B1 Singapore differ from H-1B for a VP Sales hire?
H-1B1 Singapore skips the annual lottery, requires no USCIS petition, and is processed directly at the U.S. consulate in Singapore. H-1B requires employer-filed petitions, is subject to an 85,000-slot annual cap with a lottery for most applicants, and carries significantly longer processing timelines. For Singaporean nationals in VP Sales roles, H-1B1 Singapore is faster and more predictable, though it does not allow dual intent the way a green card-sponsored H-1B does.
Where can I find VP Sales positions where the employer already understands H-1B1 Singapore?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces VP Sales roles at employers with verified H-1B1 Singapore filing history, filtering out companies unfamiliar with the visa category. This matters at the VP level because legal and HR teams at inexperienced employers often create delays or misroute your application through standard H-1B channels instead.
Can my employer file the LCA before I have a signed offer letter?
The LCA must reflect a bona fide job offer, including a specific start date, salary, and worksite location. In practice, most employers file the LCA after an offer is accepted but before your consulate appointment. For VP Sales roles, confirm the job title on the LCA exactly matches the title in your offer letter, since discrepancies can trigger requests for additional documentation at the consulate.
What happens to my H-1B1 Singapore status if my VP Sales role is eliminated?
H-1B1 Singapore status is tied to your specific employer and role. If the position is eliminated, you have a grace period of up to 60 days, per USCIS policy, to find a new employer willing to sponsor a fresh H-1B1 Singapore application or to depart the United States. Unlike H-1B, H-1B1 does not support portability provisions, so the new employer must complete a full LCA certification cycle before you can resume work.
