- Partner closely with product, program, and other engineering teams to translate business problems into end-to-end technical solutions.
- Drive operational excellence, including observability, incident response, postmortems, capacity planning, and readiness for peak events.
- Act as a technical mentor and multiplier, coaching senior engineers, influencing technical direction across teams, and raising the overall engineering bar.

- Strong skills in system design, data modeling, and API design, with the ability to make and explain trade-offs.
- Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and modern DevOps practices.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of influencing across teams and organizations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a principal-level engineer or equivalent, setting technical direction for multiple teams or services.
- Depth in one or more of: high availability and resiliency, large-scale data processing, performance optimization, security and compliance, or platform/infrastructure engineering.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Principal Software Engineer
Verify your degree meets specialty occupation
H-1B1 visa requires your degree to directly relate to the Principal Software Engineer role. A computer science, software engineering, or electrical engineering degree maps cleanly. A general business or unrelated degree triggers additional scrutiny at the consulate, so prepare a credential evaluation in advance.
Use OFLC Wage Search before negotiating
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application certifying your salary meets the DOL prevailing wage for Principal Software Engineer roles in the hiring city. Pull the OFLC Wage Search figures yourself so you know whether an offer clears the threshold before you accept.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search for Principal Software Engineer roles on Migrate Mate, which surfaces employers with verified DOL Labor Condition Application filing history for this occupation, so you're applying to companies that have already committed to H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship, not just ones open to it in theory.
Ask about consulate processing during the offer
Unlike H-1B visa, your employer doesn't file with USCIS. You apply directly at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore after the LCA is certified. Confirm your hiring manager understands this distinction so the onboarding timeline accounts for consulate scheduling, not a months-long USCIS adjudication window.
Prepare for dual-intent scrutiny at the consulate
H-1B1 visa does not confer dual intent, so consular officers will assess whether you intend to return to Singapore. As a senior-level candidate, document your ties to Singapore and frame your U.S. role as a fixed-term professional assignment rather than an open-ended relocation.
Check your O*NET profile before the interview
Consular officers sometimes reference O*NET occupation data to verify that Principal Software Engineer roles require a specific, directly related degree. Review the O*NET profile for your SOC code so you can articulate how your academic background and role responsibilities align with the defined specialty occupation criteria.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Principal Software Engineer role qualify for H-1B1 Singapore visa sponsorship?
Yes. Principal Software Engineer is a specialty occupation under the H-1B1 Singapore visa because it normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. Your employer must certify that requirement in the Labor Condition Application filed with DOL before you can apply at the consulate.
How does H-1B1 Singapore differ from H-1B for software engineers?
H-1B requires USCIS to approve a petition and subjects you to an annual lottery with roughly a one-in-four selection rate. H-1B1 Singapore skips both. Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with DOL, then you apply directly at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore. The 5,400-visa annual cap has never filled, so timing is not a constraint.
How do I find Principal Software Engineer jobs with H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by employers with documented DOL Labor Condition Application filing history for H-1B1 Singapore, so you can identify companies that have already sponsored this visa type for software engineering roles rather than cold-applying and asking HR to research sponsorship from scratch.
Can I switch employers after starting a Principal Software Engineer role on H-1B1 Singapore?
Yes, but the process restarts from the beginning. Your new employer must file a fresh Labor Condition Application with DOL and you must obtain a new H-1B1 visa stamp at the consulate before starting the new role. H-1B1 does not carry the portability protections that H-1B holders have under AC21, so plan the transition carefully.
Does my Singaporean three-year degree qualify for H-1B1 specialty occupation?
A three-year Singapore university degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year bachelor's degree for H-1B1 visa purposes, particularly for computer science and engineering programs from NUS, NTU, or SMU. A foreign credential evaluation report from a recognized evaluation service strengthens your application if the consular officer raises the question.
