H-1B1 Singapore Visa Product Design Engineer Jobs
Product Design Engineer roles qualify for H-1B1 Singapore visa sponsorship as specialty occupations under the U.S.-Singapore Free Trade Agreement. No lottery, no USCIS petition filing, and the 5,400-visa annual cap has never been exhausted, so your timeline depends on your employer's LCA filing speed and consulate scheduling, not selection odds.

Apple is a place where people come to do the best work of their lives. We obsess over the details to make products that surprise, delight, and provide new ways to interact with the technology that changes our customers’ lives. The tight integration of engineering teams from hardware, software, silicon, and beyond sets Apple apart and provides unique opportunities for impact and innovation.
The Beats Accessories Product Design team is seeking a senior product design engineer to work on the next-generation of products. We work in a highly-collaborative, fast-paced environment with teams across Apple including Industrial Design, Electrical Engineering, Software, and Marketing to define product objectives, create solutions to meet those objectives, and validate the performance of those designs through mass production, all while keeping customer experience at the forefront. Our contributions have broad impacts - from the overall system size and shape down to the smallest details.
Description
We're looking for a Senior Product Designer to lead mechanical design from early concept through mass production. This person will bridge industrial design intent and manufacturable, reliable hardware - owning designs across the full product lifecycle, from prototyping and feature definition through China-based build execution and volume ramp. The ideal candidate combines strong hands-on design skills with deep manufacturing and reliability engineering knowledge, and is excited to mentor junior engineers on the team.
Responsibilities
-
Concept & Definition: Drive early-stage prototyping, explore form factors, and define feature sets in close collaboration with industrial design, product management, and engineering leadership.
-
Detailed Design: Own detailed design of metal and plastic components - enclosures, brackets, fasteners, and structural elements - ensuring designs meet aesthetic, functional, and manufacturing requirements.
-
Tolerance & Reliability Analysis: Perform tolerance stack-up analysis, finite element analysis (FEA), and failure analysis to validate structural integrity, fit, and long-term reliability.
-
Systems Integration: Integrate and coordinate mechanical design across multiple subsystems, including acoustics, display, input devices, power electronics, and wireless antennas - ensuring cross-functional compatibility and performance.
-
Build & Manufacturing Oversight: Travel to and oversee prototype and production builds at contract manufacturers in China; work directly with vendors and factory teams to troubleshoot design and process issues on the line.
-
Production Ramp Support: Support products through EVT/DVT/PVT and into mass production, resolving field and line issues, driving corrective actions, and ensuring design intent is preserved at scale.
-
Mentorship: Guide and develop junior and mid-level mechanical engineers, providing technical direction, design reviews, and career mentorship.
Minimum Qualifications
-
BS
-
8+ years of mechanical/product design experience, ideally in consumer electronics or similarly complex hardware products.
-
Proven track record shipping at least one (ideally multiple) high-volume consumer products from concept to mass production.
-
Strong CAD skills (SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or similar) and experience with FEA tools (ANSYS, Abaqus, or built-in CAD FEA modules).
-
Deep knowledge of metal and plastic manufacturing processes (CNC machining, sheet metal, injection molding, die casting) and their design constraints (DFM/DFA).
-
Hands-on experience with GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and reliability/failure analysis methodologies (root cause analysis, DOE, 8D, etc.).
-
Experience working directly with contract manufacturers in China, including on-site build support and vendor management.
-
Familiarity with integrating mechanical design around electro-mechanical subsystems (acoustics, displays, input devices, batteries/power electronics, antennas).
Preferred Qualifications
-
M.S. or Ph.D. and 6+ years job experience in Product Design, Mechanical Engineering or related field
-
Experience with acoustic or RF/antenna co-design considerations.
-
Background in industrial design collaboration or human factors.
-
Experience with statistical process control (SPC) and yield analysis during ramp.

Verify your degree field matches the role
H-1B1 visa requires a directly related bachelor's degree, so a mechanical engineering or industrial design degree supports a Product Design Engineer role, but a general business degree typically won't. Check O*NET for the occupation's standard education requirements before applying.
Search verified H-1B1 filers on Migrate Mate
Filter by employers with documented H-1B1 Singapore LCA filings in engineering and design occupations. Migrate Mate surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data so you target companies that have sponsored Singaporean nationals before, not just those open to it in theory.
Ask employers about LCA timing before accepting
Your employer files the LCA with DOL before your consulate appointment. For Product Design Engineer roles, confirm the employer's HR team knows the H-1B1 visa process specifically, since many only know H-1B visa filing procedures and may misquote your timeline by weeks.
Benchmark your offered salary against OFLC Wage Search
DOL requires your offered wage to meet the prevailing wage for your specific SOC code and work location. Run the OFLC Wage Search before your offer negotiation so you know the minimum the LCA must certify and can flag any shortfall early.
Prepare a portfolio demonstrating specialty occupation depth
Consular officers assess whether your Product Design Engineer role genuinely requires a specialized degree. Bring documentation showing design methodology, engineering analysis, and cross-functional ownership, not just deliverables, to distinguish your role from technician-level positions that might not qualify.
Request a start date that accounts for consulate wait times
H-1B1 Singapore processing happens at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore after LCA certification, not through USCIS. Build at least four to six weeks between your offer acceptance and your proposed start date to accommodate scheduling and administrative review windows.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Product Design Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1 Singapore?
Yes, Product Design Engineer qualifies when the position requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as mechanical engineering, industrial design, or product engineering. The employer documents this requirement in the Labor Condition Application filed with DOL. Roles framed as technician or associate-level positions that accept any degree may not qualify, so job title and actual duties both matter.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa compare to H-1B for Product Design Engineer roles?
H-1B1 Singapore skips the lottery entirely and is processed at the consulate rather than through USCIS, so there's no petition filing wait and no annual randomization. The trade-off is that H-1B1 does not confer dual intent, meaning you can't simultaneously pursue permanent residency on this status the way H-1B holders can. For Singaporean nationals focused on U.S. employment without immediate green card plans, H-1B1 is faster and more predictable.
How do I find employers who have actually sponsored H-1B1 Singapore visas for engineering roles?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by verified DOL Labor Condition Application filings, so you can identify employers with documented H-1B1 visa sponsorship history in engineering and design occupations rather than relying on a company's self-reported openness to sponsorship. That LCA history tells you the employer already understands the filing process for Singaporean nationals specifically.
Can I switch employers after arriving in the U.S. on an H-1B1 Singapore visa?
Yes, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need to return to the consulate for a new visa stamp before the transfer is complete. Unlike H-1B portability under AC21, H-1B1 visa doesn't allow you to start working for a new employer while the new application is pending, so coordinate timing carefully with both parties.
What documents should a Singaporean Product Design Engineer prepare for the consulate interview?
Bring your certified LCA from DOL, your job offer letter specifying your role and salary, your degree certificates and transcripts confirming a directly related field, your Singaporean passport, and your DS-160 confirmation. For Product Design Engineer roles, supplementing with portfolio documentation that shows the engineering and analytical complexity of your position can help the consular officer confirm specialty occupation status quickly.
