DESCRIPTION
As part of the AWS Applied AI Solutions organization, we have a vision to provide business applications, leveraging Amazon’s unique experience and expertise, that are used by millions of companies worldwide to manage day-to-day operations. We will accomplish this by accelerating our customers’ businesses through delivery of intuitive and differentiated technology solutions that solve enduring business challenges. We blend vision with curiosity and Amazon’s real-world experience to build opinionated, turnkey solutions. Where customers prefer to buy over build, we become their trusted partner with solutions that are no-brainers to buy and easy to use.
Come change the way the world sees the cloud! Amazon WorkSpaces is a managed desktop computing service in the cloud. Amazon WorkSpaces allows customers to easily provision cloud-based desktops that allow end-users to access the documents, applications and resources they need with the device of their choice, including laptops, iPad, Kindle Fire, Android tablets, and zero clients. With a few clicks in the AWS Management Console, customers can provision a high-quality cloud desktop experience (for Windows or Linux) for any number of users at a cost that is highly competitive with traditional desktops and half the cost of most virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solutions.
We are looking for cross platform systems development engineers who are passionate about building, maintaining, and automating the systems that underpin the robust WorkSpaces-fleet system. On any given day, we use Python, Lambda, DynamoDB, CloudFormation, PowerShell as well as other public AWS services and a host of Amazon-internal tools. We don’t expect you to be an expert in, or necessarily even be familiar with, all of the technologies listed above, but we do expect you to be excited to learn about them!
In this role you’ll help WorkSpaces-Fleet expand into new regions, remove development friction through automation, and collaborate with a team of Systems Developers to help shape the future for the next generation of services to help customers reduce the mean-time-to manage their WorkSpaces. You’ll apply your creative and critical problem solving skills to develop and run multi-tenant at massive scale services.
WorkSpaces is changing the way that people use computers - come help us make history!

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Systems Development Engineer
Verify your degree field matches the role
H-1B1 visa requires a specialty occupation with a directly related bachelor's degree. A computer science, software engineering, or electrical engineering degree supports most Systems Development Engineer roles. A general IT or business degree may not without supporting coursework documentation.
Search verified H-1B1 LCA filers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter employers by DOL Labor Condition Application filing history for Systems Development Engineer roles. This shows you which companies have already navigated H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship, cutting your outreach list to realistic targets.
Ask employers about LCA timing before accepting offers
Your employer must file and receive a certified LCA from DOL before your consulate interview. Ask hiring managers whether their legal team has handled H-1B visa1 filings before, since many U.S. employers confuse H-1B1 with the H-1B lottery process.
Pull your occupation's prevailing wage before negotiating
Use the OFLC Wage Search to find the prevailing wage for Systems Development Engineer in your target city. Your offered salary must meet or exceed the applicable wage level, and your employer certifies this on the LCA before DOL submits it.
Confirm the employer is not cap-subject restricted
Universities, nonprofit research institutions, and government entities are cap-exempt and can sponsor H-1B1 workers outside the 5,400 annual allocation. If the cap fills unexpectedly in a given year, these employers remain unaffected, giving your application a reliable path.
Prepare your O*NET occupation evidence for the interview
Consular officers assess whether Systems Development Engineer qualifies as a specialty occupation. Print your O*NET occupation profile showing the education requirements and bring it alongside your degree transcripts and employment offer letter to your consulate appointment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Systems Development Engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1 Singapore?
Yes. Systems Development Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related field, which satisfies the specialty occupation standard. Your employer confirms this on the LCA filing. Bringing your O*NET occupation profile and degree transcripts to your consulate interview helps the officer verify the requirement quickly.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa differ from H-1B for this role?
The H-1B1 Singapore visa has no lottery, no USCIS petition requirement, and a separate 5,400-visa annual cap that has never been fully used. Your employer files an LCA with DOL, and you apply directly at the U.S. consulate in Singapore. The H-1B requires an employer USCIS petition, is subject to an oversubscribed lottery, and can take months longer to adjudicate.
Which employers actively sponsor Systems Development Engineer roles on H-1B1 Singapore?
Migrate Mate filters employers by verified DOL LCA filing history for H-1B1 Singapore sponsorship, so you can identify companies that have already sponsored this visa for engineering roles. Technology, cloud infrastructure, and financial services firms in the U.S. are common sponsors, but the field of employers is broader than many Singaporean candidates assume.
Can I switch employers after starting work on an H-1B1 Singapore visa?
Yes, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you will typically need to attend a new consulate interview in Singapore before beginning work at the new company. The H-1B1 does not allow the portability provisions available under H-1B, so plan the timing of any job change carefully with your new employer's immigration counsel.
How long does it take to get H-1B1 Singapore visa sponsorship for a Systems Development Engineer job?
DOL certifies the LCA within seven working days in most cases. After certification, you schedule your consulate interview in Singapore, where processing is typically completed the same day or within a few business days for approved applications. End-to-end, most candidates move from signed offer letter to visa stamp in four to six weeks, assuming documents are complete.
