H-1B1 Singapore Visa Firmware Engineer Jobs
H-1B1 Singapore visa sponsorship lets Singaporean firmware engineers work in the U.S. without entering the H-1B lottery. Roles requiring embedded systems expertise and a relevant degree qualify as specialty occupations. The 5,400-visa annual cap rarely fills, and consulate processing typically runs two to three weeks.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Visa Sponsorship as a Firmware Engineer
Translate your ITE or polytechnic credentials
U.S. employers evaluating H-1B1 visa petitions need to confirm your degree meets specialty occupation standards. Get a credential evaluation from a NACES-recognized evaluator to establish U.S. degree equivalency before applying.
Target employers filing LCAs for firmware roles
Search Migrate Mate to find companies with DOL Labor Condition Application filing history in firmware and embedded systems. This filters out employers who say they sponsor but have no documented track record with H-1B1 or similar specialty occupation visas.
Use O*NET to frame your specialty occupation case
The O*NET profile for Electrical and Electronics Engineers or Computer Hardware Engineers documents the degree requirements that define specialty occupation. Reference the specific job zone and education level when discussing your role with a hiring manager or immigration contact.
Confirm the employer uses E-Verify before accepting an offer
H-1B1 employers must be enrolled in E-Verify to complete your I-9 verification after you start. Ask HR directly during the offer stage, not after you've already negotiated compensation. Non-enrolled employers cannot legally employ you on H-1B1 status.
Request LCA certification before your consulate appointment
The DOL must certify your employer's Labor Condition Application before you attend your visa interview. Confirm with your employer that LCA certification is complete, since consular officers will not approve the H-1B1 without a certified LCA in hand.
Prepare for consulate questions on job duties and degree match
Singapore-based consular officers specifically probe whether your firmware engineering duties require your stated degree field. Bring documentation linking your role's responsibilities to your major, such as an offer letter with a technical job description and your transcripts.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a firmware engineer role qualify as a specialty occupation for H-1B1 Singapore?
Yes, firmware engineering qualifies as a specialty occupation because the role requires at least a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a closely related field. The position must be structured so that a specific technical degree is a baseline requirement, not merely preferred. An offer letter that lists degree requirements explicitly strengthens the consular officer's assessment.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa differ from the H-1B for firmware engineers?
The H-1B1 has no lottery, no USCIS petition filing, and a dedicated annual cap of 5,400 visas for Singaporeans that has never been exhausted. You apply directly at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore after your employer completes DOL Labor Condition Application certification. The H-1B requires USCIS approval and exposes you to the annual lottery, which selected roughly one in four registrants in recent cycles.
How do I find U.S. employers who will sponsor an H-1B1 Singapore visa for a firmware role?
Use Migrate Mate to search for employers with verified DOL filing history in hardware and embedded systems roles. Companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications for firmware engineers or closely related titles have demonstrated familiarity with the H-1B1 sponsorship process, which reduces the risk of an employer withdrawing an offer once they learn what filing involves.
Can my employer file the H-1B1 while I remain in Singapore, or do I need to be present in the U.S.?
H-1B1 Singapore is a consular-processing-only visa, meaning you apply at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore rather than adjusting status inside the U.S. Your employer files the Labor Condition Application with DOL, and once certified, you attend the consulate interview. You do not need to be in the U.S. at any point during the application process.
What happens to my H-1B1 status if my firmware engineering job ends?
H-1B1 status is tied to a specific employer and role. If your employment ends, you have a grace period of up to 60 days, per USCIS policy, to find a new sponsoring employer, depart the U.S., or change to another valid status. Your new employer must file a fresh Labor Condition Application with DOL and complete the consular or change-of-status process before you begin work.
