ABOUT THE JOB
Like Google's own ambitions, the work of a Software Engineer goes beyond just Search. Software Engineering Managers have not only the technical expertise to take on and provide technical leadership to major projects, but also manage a team of Engineers. You not only optimize your own code but make sure Engineers are able to optimize theirs. As a Software Engineering Manager you manage your project goals, contribute to product strategy and help develop your team. Teams work all across the company, in areas such as information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression, user interface design; the list goes on and is growing every day. Operating with scale and speed, our exceptional software engineers are just getting started -- and as a manager, you guide the way. With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally. Google’s Quantum AI team builds and runs algorithms on today’s world leading quantum computers. As these machines grow from research prototypes into products, the software that orchestrates and executes quantum computations will need to transition into a form that more closely resembles traditional software products. In this role, you will manage and lead a team within Quantum AI. You will drive cross-team alignment on RPC standardization and prioritize and guide the direction of related sub-projects. You will work closely with the research, product, and software teams on the Quantum AI team. Much of this work is greenfield, representing an opportunity for high impact. The full potential of quantum computing will be unlocked with a large-scale computer capable of complex, error-corrected computations. Google Quantum AI's mission is to build this computer and unlock solutions to classically intractable problems.
Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. US: $207000 - $301000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + bonus + equity + benefits

Verify your role meets specialty occupation
Pull the O*NET profile for Technical Lead or Software Development Manager and confirm the listed education requirement is a specific bachelor's degree field. Job postings that say 'degree preferred' instead of 'required' can create problems at the consulate.
Check your employer's LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter for employers who have filed H-1B1 visa Labor Condition Applications for technical or engineering roles. Active LCA history signals the hiring team already understands the sponsorship process and won't stall at the offer stage.
Request the LCA wage level in writing
Before accepting an offer, ask which DOL prevailing wage level your employer intends to certify. Technical Lead roles span Levels II through IV depending on supervisory scope. A Level I certification for a lead role can draw consular scrutiny.
Prepare your credential evaluation early
Singapore's three-year bachelor's degrees sometimes require a credential evaluation letter confirming U.S. equivalency. Commission this from a NACES-approved evaluator before your employer starts the LCA, not after the offer letter arrives.
Target companies already enrolled in E-Verify
E-Verify enrollment isn't required for H-1B1 visa sponsorship, but employers already enrolled have completed identity-verification compliance and are far more familiar with work-authorization processes for foreign nationals in technical roles.
Time your interview around LCA certification
The DOL must certify the LCA before your consular interview. Standard LCA certification takes seven business days, but plan for delays. Scheduling your U.S. Embassy appointment before the certified LCA is in hand will result in a 221(g) administrative hold.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Technical Lead role qualify as a specialty occupation for the H-1B1 Singapore visa?
Yes, provided the job requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field such as computer science, software engineering, or electrical engineering. The key distinction is that the degree requirement must be tied directly to the role. A Technical Lead position that accepts any bachelor's degree regardless of field may not satisfy the specialty occupation standard at the consulate.
How does the H-1B1 Singapore visa compare to the H-1B for Technical Lead hiring?
For Singaporean nationals, the H-1B1 visa has two major structural advantages over the H-1B visa: no lottery and no USCIS petition. Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with the DOL and you apply directly at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore. The annual cap is 5,400 slots and has never filled, so timing isn't driven by a random selection event the way H-1B is.
How do I find employers who have sponsored H-1B1 Singapore visas for Technical Lead roles?
Migrate Mate shows verified DOL Labor Condition Application filing history filtered by visa type and occupation, so you can identify which employers have actively sponsored H-1B1 visa roles in software engineering and technical leadership. This is more reliable than inferring sponsorship willingness from a job posting alone, since many employers sponsor without advertising it.
What documents does my employer need to prepare before my consular interview?
Your employer must obtain a certified Labor Condition Application from the DOL before your interview at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore. You'll also need a support letter from the employer confirming your role, salary, and start date, along with the certified LCA itself. Bring your academic credentials and any professional certifications relevant to the Technical Lead scope.
Can I switch employers after entering the U.S. on an H-1B1 Singapore visa?
Yes, but the H-1B1 doesn't allow portability the way an approved H-1B petition does. Your new employer must file and receive a certified LCA and you must obtain a new H-1B1 visa stamp before starting work for them. You can't begin employment under a new sponsor simply because they've filed paperwork, so plan your transition timeline carefully.
